How To Curl Your Hair With GHD Hair Straighteners

how-to-curl-hair-straighteners-ghd-flat-iron

In December I put a video tutorial up on my YouTube on curling your hair with a hair straightener/flat iron. Lots of you have always commented on my hair when it’s curly and have asked how I do it, so I thought I would also create a blog post explaining to you just how to curl your hair with hair straighteners. It’s a lot easier than you might think and it gives a great result! It’s not as soft and springy as curling tongs, however it gives those looser waves that I think suit longer, thicker hair better, which is why I love this method. I don’t tend to mess with my hair too much as I like to keep it classic, but you may remember that I did my own DIY Blonde Ombre Dip Dye myself and I love how that turned out, but I’m not too adventurous when it comes to hair styles.

I’ve included the video tutorial at the bottom of this post beneath the photos so you can get a great idea on how to do it. Having curly hair is always something I love as I think it looks more feminine and girly. It’s as simple as straightening your hair, but I have included the steps just below for you:

Prepare your hair to be straightened after you wash it, condition it, dry it thoroughly and spritz on your protective spray. Make sure all of the knots are brushed out and your hair is smooth as this creates the nice softer curls (you can see my hair care routine here). Next, depending on how much hair you have, you might want to section it out and do it that way. It’s easier to begin this way if you are new to curling your hair with hair straighteners. Now, take a strand of hair, maybe about 2cm thick, put it into the straightener like you would if you were running it right down to the tip, but instead of going straight down, you need to twist the flat iron around so the hair goes with it, keep on twisting until you get to the bottom so you can see the hair curling around it, then once it’s at the bottom, let it loose and just twirl it with your finger slightly to keep the direction of the curl going. It’s harder to explain in writing which is why I have the video below, you can see exactly how I do it by watching the video.

If you are interested in the hair straighteners I was using, I always use GHD. I have the GHD Mini Styler which I got from Perfumes Club UK to create ringlet style curls and I also have my old GHD Classic Straightener which I got from my mum when I was about 14 or 15. It still works perfectly to this day, even though it’s about 10/11 years old! The classic size straightener gives the looser curls as it has bigger plates than the mini. I hope you like this tutorial and it helps you in creating wavy/curly hair with your straighteners. I do get a lot of questions though about which straighteners I use and I will always stick by GHD. They are expensive, but they are definitely worth the money as they work so well and last so long! You can check out some of their other products by clicking here.

Agree with you that the long curls work best for your hair. They compliment your particular brand of natural, understated beauty. And your sweet, love-at-first-listen, voice almost does the same, Lorna 🙂

Most people feel that way about their voice. The recorded version always differs from how we perceive it in our head. So there’s absolutely nothing wrong with yours.

Thanks very much darlin tht has saved me a nightmare I purchased the large plated ones on the advice from the lady who puts my extensions in and she says they work best as the heat is more evenly distributed and is better for ur hair although the curls are more wavy than rifle which I like but still trying to master it but I cudnt remember the way she showed me so this has saved me alot of money as I paid alot for the ghds for just to straighten my hair would be no good I prefer curls I suit them better so thanks again and keep up the good work loadsa love susan from Glasgow x

Thanks for your comments =) I read & reply every one =)
