I was extremely inspired by Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere today when I read her blog post on her daily routine. I enjoyed reading it so much that I wanted to do my own post for you to enjoy reading as well. I know it’s always fun to look into people’s lives and see what they get up to! So, this is my day on Monday 19th January 2014. I hope you like it!
10am – I’m really not a morning person, so I tend to wake up around 10am due to being a night owl. Once I wake up, I lie in bed for about 5 minutes to adjust as it takes me sometime to come around, quickly glance at my emails via my iPhone to see what I’m dealing with for the day and then head to the bathroom.
10:10am – I wander to the kitchen to feed the cats and play with them for a little while and get a glass of water.
10:30am – After that I go back upstairs to my room to get my Macbook, turn it on and check out some other fashion bloggers for inspiration, sift through my emails to respond to important ones, check to see if I have some blog comments to approve and general dilly dally around the internet, switching my brain on.
11am – After getting used to being online, I will then start work properly. I will make sure I respond to more emails that need working on and start the process of blogging. I start with DenimBlog as I get the posts edited and ready for scheduling for the day, as well as looking around for my own posts to write to make up the days quota so that’s done and dusted.
12pm – I start to think about lunch at this point since I don’t eat breakfast. I can’t stomach food when I wake and it takes a good couple of hours for my tummy to settle, but before I get lunch, I look and see what post I can make on Raindrops of Sapphire if I haven’t already got some pre-done posts to publish. So I will get a outfit photo set ready to edit.
12:30pm – Before I start work on Raindrops of Sapphire, I get my lunch. This usually consists of two wholegrain mini rolls with chicken and mayonaise in them, a soya yoghurt and some juice. Occasionally I might have a fruit or vegetable with this, but that’s generally all I eat at lunch.
12:45pm – After eating, I head back to my laptop to start working on my blog post that I got ready. This includes editing my photos, writing the text, finding links to pieces I’m wearing etc and then checking it over before publishing it and promoting. Depending on the size of the post, this can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, but the day I’m basing it off, it took just over 1.
2:15pm – Once my post is published on Raindrops of Sapphire, I think about what I can write for The Jeans Blog. I brainstorm ideas or put some of them in drafts to work on over the course of the week. This particular day I had published a post the day before and had one almost finished for posting, so I just needed to do a little writing. I tend to work a little sporadically, putting a couple of ideas for posts into drafts and working on them at once, chopping and changing between the two as I get bored quickly, but I usually end up in the swing of it once I get going with images and some text, things just flow then.
4pm – After getting things ready on The Jeans Blog for the coming days and speaking with Adam on the phone since he’s out of work at this time, I take a little break and just surf around the internet for a while or go and get a snack, just to have a little downtime in between, but I’m usually checking social media and emails in-between as I don’t like to switch off entirely on a working day.
5pm – I start to think about things I can write for The Fashion Supernova and come up with ideas for that, but my posting schedule is more like 1-2 posts a week, so it’s not as strict. While doing this I generally work on a couple of things for DenimBlog to keep things ticking over.
6pm – This is when I have my dinner, it’s generally always something homemade by my mum since I live at home and am possibly one of the worst cooks ever, today it was chicken Caesar Salad. We also watch random things on the TV at this point like reruns of On The Buses, Come Dine With Me, Bargain Hunt etc.
7pm – I generally chat to Adam again on the phone after dinner since we don’t live together, contact and communication between us is really important so even though we text throughout the day, we love our calls.
7:30pm – This is when I might start to unwind a little bit, either tending to the cats or pottering around doing random things.
8pm – Depending on the day, I might have some TV shows that I follow starting at 8, so on this day I did. I watch those for a little while to completely shut off from working. I guess you might call these random since I watch things like Undateables (that was on), Stella, Sleepy Hollow and many various shows.
10pm – I usually get back to my laptop around this time as sometimes I have more emails to respond to from America. I try to clear out my inbox before I go to bed so things are clean, but sometimes I’m not able to as running 4 blogs means I get a tonne every single day. At this point I will also start brainstorming for ideas on tomorrows work since my brain doesn’t shut off, it always keeps active, even in bed. Plus, I use this time to chat to my friends online and get a snack.
11:30pm – I generally chat to Adam for a little while again before bed, but since he works early, he goes to bed much before me.
12am – After our call, I usually head back downstairs with my mum while the TV is on in the background and my brain goes into overdrive. At this point, unlike many people, I’m not in the mode where I start to slow or shut down. Being a night owl means my brain is most active right now and I generally have ideas popping out of me all over, so I make sure I write all of these down, productively do some of them or test things out to see if it works. I think since things are quiet around this time, I focus more.
2am – I try to shut down my laptop right about now (which coincidentally is the time I’m currently writing this blog post) because I need to wind down for bed. I have brushed my teeth and done my night time routine now, making sure everything is ok and the cats are fine, so I head to bed and wind down with Instagram or Youtube. I usually end up watching some really random things or playing an app game on my phone, at which point I settle down and fall asleep.
3am – I probably fell asleep around this time, but without having something to concentrate on before bed, I wouldn’t go to sleep I doubt. My mind can’t rest properly and if left without something to focus on, it goes insane and it’s not good for me, so even though people tell you not to use gadgets in bed, I really need to.
So this is a general routine for me, but it does vary day by day, sometimes I might have meetings to attend online with my co-writers of DenimBlog or a company that is in talks about working with me, sometimes I might head out to see my grandparents, sometimes I might need to go to the shops to get things and stock up, I might do my exercise routine around 10pm on certain days or I might be having a more relaxed day (which is needed often since I work all day mostly).
I might read a book at night (although I haven’t had time in ages) or if it’s weekends, I take Saturday and Sunday off entirely (well, try to), apart from shooting photos on both days of my outfits. My routine varies greatly too on which blogs I’m working on as sometimes I will need to spend a good few hours in a day on DenimBlog, while others I might need to spend those hours on another blog. However, this is a good idea at a look into my life though, and yes, I do only eat 2 meals a day plus snacks in-between, you did read that right, ha ha. I’d love to know what you do on a days routine and if you would like to read more of these from me!
