All Saints Plait Balfern Biker Jacket in Nude Pink Suede

I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to finally have this jacket! I know most of you saw on Snapchat and my Instagram (LornaRaindrops) about my love for this beauty as soon as I saw it in the All Saints store, but it was quite pricey at £328 and I wasn’t sure on the goat leather. After a couple of weeks of debating whether or not I wanted to get this jacket, it had already completely sold out and as I frantically searched online for countless days and spoke to customer services, I knew my obsession with it wasn’t going to go away until I found it in my size in stock somewhere and I was right. I finally found one in my size left on John Lewis and I bought it instantly. I couldn’t be more in love with a jacket if I tried! I am besotted with it and it’s my new favourite leather jacket that I own, so here’s my review on it.

The Sizing: The sizing on this All Saints Plait Balfern Biker Jacket seems to be quite true to size for All Saints to me and very similar to the All Saints Balfern Biker Leather Jacket in Sahara that I have. I would say they are almost identical in fit, however the Plait Balfern is more comfortable and easier to move in due to the fabric being a lot softer and more supple. I’m generally a size UK 6 in the brand and this fits absolutely perfectly everywhere and isn’t too big or too small. I was worried as the sleeves crease up, but I think that’s purely down to the material, not the sizing. This is the perfect jacket for Spring and Summer that I have been waiting for!

The Fit: I mentioned before in my previous review that the fit of the Balfern is absolutely amazing. It’s more of a square cut biker jacket, but in a feminine way. The sleeves are full length and hit at my wrists, the bottom of the jacket hits the top of my hips so it’s not too long or too short and it’s just all round ideal in a jacket like this. I will say one negative though and that’s the belt. As this is made from a very soft and lightweight goat leather, the metal buckle on the belt is quite heavy and it’s not supported too well by the leather fabric of the belt, so it gets pulled down and twisted quite regularly. If I was being completely honest, I think this jacket would look a lot better and more sleek without the belt, however it can’t be removed as it’s attached to the back of the jacket, unless a tailor did it, but that’s something for me to consider.

The Design/Style: Unlike the Balfern Leather Jacket in Sahara that I own, this jacket doesn’t have the poppers on the lapels to keep them flat because of the suede, but luckily because the fabric is quite supple and free moving, they stay down anyway so there’s no issue with that. You might be wondering why this one is called the Plait Balfern though and that’s because of the braids it has as tassels on each of the three zipper pullers. I wasn’t certain on these at first as they can sit awkwardly and I find them a bit much, but they are growing on my slowly. I could un-braid them and take them off if I wanted to, so again, like the belt, that’s something to consider, but it’s no big deal as I love the jacket so much. I never zip my leather jackets up as they look like I’m stuffed in since I have to size down to get the shoulders and arms to fit me properly, but this jacket does zip up nicely on the hanger and looks really cute with the belt done up too if you want to wear it that way. The zippers on the arms also undo and you can push the sleeves up too. It has so many little details that I just adore and can’t get enough of it, I can see why other bloggers love it as well.

The Comfort/Leather: I briefly touched on it above, but I wasn’t certain about having a goat leather jacket for a few reasons. The main one being that I didn’t feel like goat was a widely eaten animal (but apparently it is) and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable to begin with as I wouldn’t eat a goat myself. The other reason was because the smell of the leather is extremely intense, but after I decided I did want to have the jacket, I’ve been airing it out in the day by my open window and then putting it away at night so my room doesn’t smell when I’m trying to sleep. After about a week of this the smell is pretty much gone unless you sniff it and it’s ok now. For the comfort factor though, this is the most comfortable leather I have ever come across. It is more like a suede with its texture as you can see in the photos, but it’s also like leather so it’s in the middle of the both. It’s really light and thin, ideal for the warmer weather, stretchy and comfortable, making it by far the most comfy for me, hands down.

The Colour: I’m creating a separate section for the colour of this jacket as I found it to be extremely misleading online. I saw that it was called Pink/Nude and the online stock photos make it look like a powder pink, with beige undertones, however when I saw it in the shop, to my surprise it was nothing like the online photos. It’s actually more of a nude colour entirely, which I haven’t seen any pink in at all. As I’m so pale, I often have a pink hue to my skin and the jacket is nothing like that as you can see, so I wouldn’t class it as pink in the slightest. This has of course made me love it even more as I wasn’t looking for something pink, just a creamy beige shade. Definitely don’t be put off by the stock photos if you were thinking it was pink like I was.

The Overall Opinion: My overall opinion is of course one of complete joy. This Plait Balfern Jacket is everything I have been looking for in a nude coloured beige leather jacket. I was originally eyeing up the IRO Ashville in Skin, but I couldn’t afford it and I think I like this one more. Aside from the issue with the belt being too heavy for the leather and the braids (which are growing on me), it really is perfect. It’s my favourite leather jacket that I own and I guarantee you will be seeing this one worn with many of my outfits. It also comes in grey which has been out of stock for weeks, but I finally managed to pick that one up today and it’s coming tomorrow! I am overjoyed! I can’t wait to share it with you! If you love this jacket, do not wait to get it, I seriously recommend you buy it now below as it will sell out as fast as you can blink!

Ah, I was sure you’d get it eventually – and it suits you beautifully. It’s a very nice shape and style and I like the colour too – however I’m almost sure that once you’ve shown us how you look in the grey one then I’m likely to prefer that to this one. 🙂

I can perfectly understand your hesitation over the goat aspect though as it’s not something I’d ever eat either (not that I eat much meat anyway) – but in plenty of other places in the world they do so that’s fair enough. Just don’t linger on that troll bridge in it. 😉

I’m sure you will prefer the grey one too! I will show you it tomorrow via Instagram to see what you think as I don’t think I will review it, just share it in an outfit in about 2-3 weeks time 🙂 Glad you like it though, it’s definitely a really pretty jacket and don’t worry, I won’t be on any bridges, ha ha 🙂

Lorna this jacket is really cute… it fits you perfectly ♡ I don’t know if I could handle the smell though, I don’t like strong scents. I’m glad you were able to find it and purchase it ♡♡

Thank you, Launna! I do love it! I definitely couldn’t handle the smell to begin with which was why I left it in my room when I wasn’t in it, by the open window to air it out, then pack it up at night so I can’t smell it. It was incredibly strong, but now I can’t really smell it at all thankfully!

It does seem rather pricey, but the best garments always are. And that’s a very good look for you.

That is a stunning jacket even though I don’t think I’ll ever purchase it because of the price. And goat leather? That’s the first for me and I do eat mutton but I think that’s sheep meat, correct? Not sure about goat…

Yeah I think that is sheep meat, I’m not sure though as I’m not a huge meat eater so I don’t know for certain. Glad you like it though!

The jacket looks so chic on you Lorna, and suits you perfectly. It looks really stylish and edgy too, and I’m sure the neutral shade will go with lots of things in your wardrobe. The fitting is just right, and I like all the details you mentioned, like the zips on the sleeves. You made a great choice!

Darling, this jacket is too small for your. I guess you can’t even close it! Too bad, cause the jacket is very pretty. So please recognize your real size and size up! Don’t be ashamed, just stand to your body! Xx

Ha ha, it’s not too small for me. It’s the size I always take because it has to fit my shoulders. I have small shoulders and a bigger jacket looks too big on my shoulders. I never can do any jackets up I wear because I have a big chest, so no jackets ever close. They only close around the waist and that’s it. If you think it’s got to do with me being ashamed with my body size, it’s not, I have clothes which vary in size from UK 4 – 10, it has nothing to do with that. I just know how things should fit and jackets should always fit in the shoulders. This is not a jacket I would ever do up anyway as I hate how they look done up. If you think it’s too small based on the fact that it doesn’t do up, you’re very wrong. You can see if fits everywhere, my arms, my shoulders, my back, the lapels sit flat etc. The size up in an 8 looked sloppy and hung off me, it looked awful. I’ve been in the fashion industry for many, many years and I know how things should fit me. I have an awkward body shape of small shoulders and big boobs, so I’ve come to know what works for me. But thanks for your opinion xx.
