I’m sure you might have noticed already that there’s a huge trend coming into the market right now for Summer 2016 for Aztec printed bucket bags. I’ve been seeing them cropping up on shops over the past month and I’m pretty sure we will be seeing them out on celebrities and fashion bloggers very soon. There’s something so grounding and natural about bags like this too, probably because they are hand-made and unique.
This particular bag that I have here is in collaboration with BrandFair, it’s the Mariposa, which is a Mochila bag made by the Wayuu women of Guajira Colombia. It’s 100% handmade and it has taken approximately 3 weeks to weave, making it completely unique and special. It uses a double thread count, giving it a thick and strong weave and this weaving technique makes the bag both durable and long lasting, differentiating it from other traditional bags. The gorgeous strap was made by the Wayuu men using an old traditional technique too, isn’t it pretty?
I thought this bag would be perfect to take photos in the flower park with as it reminds me of something that is perfect for a Summertime day out, either having a picnic in the park with friends or just enjoying a woodland stroll. It’s big enough to fit everything you need inside and because it’s woven from fabric, it’s extremely lightweight already, so you don’t have to worry about making it too heavy, which is ideal for me.
I originally fell in love with this particular one as I love the baby pink and turquoise shades that are woven into the print here, it makes it stand out to me against the others. BrandFair have some more luxurious options with beading and crystals on them too for those of you who love to be a bit more lavish, but I like to keep things simplistic as you know, so this Mariposa Mochila bag was the best option for me. What do you think of it? I’d love to know what your thoughts are on handmade bags?

These are just so beautiful, I’ve had my eyes on them for a few years now! Plus, anything handmade that benefits independent artisans is 100% alright in my book 🙂

Dear Lorna, hi again! I guess I told you, I don’t remember well, but if not I repeat now 🙂 I am sorry I have been absent, because I caught the bad swine flu. Now I am finally Ok, but it took me more than a week in bed to be fine! I loved this bag, and handmade makes it even more special! I love astec print and the colors are lovely – shades I really love, turquoise and pink. There are really great bags in the South American region! Hope you have a lovely week!

Hi Denise, that sounds awful! Gosh, are you better now? My gran had swine flu a couple of months ago, it’s terrible!
I’m really glad you like the bag though and are doing ok 🙂 Thank you for stopping by.
It’s very pretty. I like the mix of earthy and vibrant colours. 🙂 I also notice that the bottom of the bag has an entirely different pattern – which is rather interesting. 😀
