18 Songs I’m Not Afraid To Say Make Me Happy
My taste in music has always been eclectic, even in my skater girl and gothic days I still had a secret crush on dance and pop music, sometimes even rap or hip hop, despite head banging. I am being honest when I say I love every genre, especially classical, cheesy pop, hip hop, rock, dance and everything in between, I couldn’t pin point my favourite if I tried. The Nuns songs in Sister Act are amazing too!
As music has always been a huge part of my life and I have such an emotional connection with it, I thought I would share with you some of my happy songs. This did originally start out as 10, but it’s now ended up as 18 happy songs and I hope you love them too! These songs always bring me out of bad moods or depression as music really controls my brain, it makes me feel an array of emotions and I connect with it so well, not just from singing myself, but from listening and getting into a song.
Choosing this list was extremely hard for me as I love so many songs, I mean Elvis Presley, Queen, Abba, One Direction, Justin Bieber… I’m not ashamed to admit the latter 3, but these are some of my favourites when it comes to fun music that cheers me up. We all love and like what we like and whether that’s someone who is hated by many and frowned upon or not, I’m not afraid to really enjoy the music that I connect with. So if you’re feeling down, just listen to these songs and I’m sure you will end up happy after!
If you’re wondering what headphones I have on here, they are the new Sudio Earphones that are wireless in white and rose gold! Aren’t they cool? I’ve always loved their earphones (see here) but now I have a pair which connect to my phone or laptop via Bluetooth so I don’t have a wire restricting my movement, which is perfect. If you want to get your own pair from them (I honestly can’t recommend them for style and quality enough!) you can get 15% off with the code raindrops15 at the checkout! So don’t miss out! Now, enjoy these songs!
The Weather Girls – It’s Raining Men
Earth Wind & Fire – Let’s Groove
Europe – Final Countdown
Belinda Carlisle – Heaven Is A Place On Earth
Dire Straits – Sultan’s Of Swing
Dirty Dancing – Merry Clayton – Yes
Ultrabeat – Pretty Green Eyes
Taylor Swift – Shake It Off
Pointer Sisters – I’m so Excited
Dion – Runaround Sue
Abba – Does Your Mother Know
Hercules – Zero To Hero
Foundations – Build Me Up Buttercup
Bon Jovi – Living On A Prayer
Kenny Loggins – Footloose
Mike Posner – Ibiza (Seeb Remix)
Guns ‘N’ Roses – Sweet Child Of Mine
Haddaway – What Is Love
All of these songs hold a special place in my heart either from my childhood or more recently, they always touch me in ways that nothing else can and I’m glad I have music as that kind of outlet. Even Disney songs make me happy, I’ve got full albums of those songs too! If you thought the Dire Straits song was too long, that Alchemy live version is the best version of it, especially the solo towards the end, it gives me chills, so definitely persevere! Which of these songs do you love? I’d love to know what your happy songs are as well in the comments below, leave me the YouTube links if possible so I can check them out!

Many great choices Lorna, we have similar musical tastes!!

Thanks, John!
Great list Lorna! I like most of the songs on there, especially the ones from the 80s! One song that gets me going is ‘I am the Fire’ by Halestorm.

Yeah, I’m a huge 80’s fan! They had some of the best music. I’m also addicted to country music. I listened to the song you posted, it’s actually really good. I haven’t heard it before, but it’s good. She has a very powerful voice!
That’s why I’m such a huge fan of Halestorm. Lzzy Hale has an amazing voice!

I’m glad you showed me!
I’m glad you liked it!

Me too!
You have very eclectic tastes. I’m glad to say that I’ve actually heard of the vast majority of these songs. 😀 Often when confronted by a list of songs that people like I don’t find much that I even know – though I’m getting better as I get older in appreciating a wider range of music. Not like my teen years where I only listened to country! LOL
Of your choices the ones I like best would be The Final Countdown and Livin’ On a Prayer -great songs though not particularly representative of my general tastes. Your ABBA choice is interesting too – I like ABBA but that particular song isn’t one of my favourites. I think I prefer their female vocals to their male vocals though. 🙂 There’s nothing on your list that I dislike though. I’ve just played the only two on the list that I’ve not heard before – the Hercules one and Pretty Green Eyes. Both good.
I’ll pop back later and throw you a couple or so links to my happy songs once I’ve checked if they are on YouTube or not. I don’t know as I mostly just listen to music and rarely watch music videos. 😀

I LOVE country music! Alan Jackson is one of my favourites actually, ha ha. Maybe I needed a top 10000 list, lol! Yeah, I do have very eclectic taste, it’s a mix and mash of everything! 🙂
OK… Three of my feel good songs.
This first one starts off sounding like it’s going to be a bit of a downer but it’s actually very uplifting.
Steve Earle – The Other Kind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3n46P_JhZM
I love everything by Melanie C and I think this is one of her very best.
Melanie C – First Day Of My Life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GBj8J7x-6E
This last song is just ridiculously infectious. You’ll be singing along to it before the end for sure! 😀
The Oak Ridge Boys – Elvira https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpW8t1mAP_c
Let me know if you enjoy any of them. 😀

I haven’t heard that one by Mel C, she has good music though, I think my favourite of hers was Baby When You’re Gone with Bryan Adams, that one was great! The First Day Of My Life one is pretty, I wouldn’t class it as a happy song for me though, more mellowing! I think I have heard the Steve Earle song before, it sounds familiar, it’s quite good. The Oak Ridge Boys sounds fun, I like this one! I’ve heard it before!
Yes, Baby When You’re Gone is a good one too – though I could do with Mel C having a bigger role in it than she has. 🙂 It’s funny – I never liked the Spice Girls stuff but as soon as Mel C started making her solo stuff I was hugely impressed. The other four Spice Girls still leave me indifferent though.
Steve Earle is very much a hang over from my teen years. He was always one of my favourites back then and I still like most of what he does.
That Oak Ridge Boys video is a bit distracting really – it’s like watching a Who has the silliest beard? contest – but the music is so catchy. 😀
Here’s one final one for you: Doctor Who Panoptican 8 Regeneration Mix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw-aQSYaXo4
This one always makes me happy!!! I bought the CD at the 30th Anniversary Doctor Who convention in 1993 so playing this always makes me think of that amazing weekend. 😀

Oh my gosh, that’s so cool 😀 Adam and I are both bopping to that one, ha ha! I’ve never heard that before!! Thank you for sharing that one, it’s awesome!
You’re very welcome. You must both be exhausted after 5 minutes of dancing to that! 😀
That’s the 4th track out of 4 on the CD. All 4 tracks are differently arranged versions of the Doctor Who theme. Obviously that 4th one is the dance version. LOL If you’re interested I think the other three are on YouTube too. Just search for “Doctor Who Mood Version”, “Doctor Who Terror Version” (which is a masterpiece but not upbeat at all…) and “Doctor Who Latin Version”. 😀

I will definitely give those a go tomorrow and see what I think!
I loved this post! So great to see the songs you listed. I love so many of them. Sweet Child of Mine and Buttercup are definitely two of my happy songs. I am going to try to come up with a list- perfect for those bad moods that need some cheering up. 🙂
Author
So glad you like them 🙂
I love many of these, Abba is one of my favorites… I’m not sure I could pin point my favorites… I too love diverse music. Oh and the Pointer Sisters, that is a great song they sing.
Most of the songs I love have so much meaning and put me back into different time periods of my life…♡♡♡

So gad you like them all!
Haha love these picks, and love ABBA too! Xx

You’re welcome!
I really enjoyed reading this post and I completely agree, it doesn’t matter if a song is frowned upon as long as we enjoy it – I always listen to the Beatles and Abba, they always lift my mood and they also bring up so many memories as my dad and me used to listen to the Beatles together when I was little. I also love Final Countdown, it somehow makes me feel strong haha. xx

It makes me feel strong too, it’s an amazing son that’s for sure!
Green Day is the best
Author
I used to love them when I was younger, along with Good Charlotte, Linkin Park etc, but to me I wouldn’t count them as my upbeat happy songs, more amazing, heartfelt songs!
You have a nice mix of old and new songs! I think if a song makes you happy, you definitely shouldn’t be ashamed of it, no matter who it’s by! 🙂
I had ‘it’s raining men’ in my head for the whole post haha. Didn’t even need to press play on that!

Good choices of music! I haven’t heard, “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” in a long time!

It’s a classic isn’t it?
This is such a fun post Lorna and it’s great you’ve featured a feel-good playlist on your blog. Your choices are brilliant! I agree with what you said about different musical genres. The only classification that matters is good music, and bad music.
I love to listen to the entire Thriller album, it makes me so happy and reminds me of my childhood. My siblings and I were obsessed with playing the cassette tape repeatedly! Baby Be Mine is one of my faves.

Another one of my favourite feel-good songs is The Pleasure Principle by Janet Jackson. The video is legendary and features some truly impressive dance moves by Ms Jackson.

I adore Michael Jackson! I have the whole special edition album collection which features all his albums and a tour DVD, it’s amazing! There’s not a song I don’t like from MJ! Janet has good music too, although I’m not familiar with this particular song, so I’m listening to it now. So glad you like the post!
I agree, the emotions of his music really resonate with so many people! Wow your special edition album collection sounds incredible! I’m so glad you listened to Pleasure Principle, what did you think? Janet sure can dance! They don’t make videos like that anymore!
Xx

She definitely can, their whole family was incredibly talented! I thought the song was cool, very 80’s! Reminds me a lot of Paula Abdul!
I have been at least somewhat ABBA-obsessed ever since “Waterloo” won the Eurovision in 1974.

That was an incredible song and will forever remain a classic!
