Blue Stripe Boyfriend Shirt With Denim Shorts
This H&M Boyfriend Shirt in blue and white stripe was somewhat of an impulse buy actually. I was shopping with my mum and I saw it on the rail, thinking to myself that it looked so comfy! It reminds me a bit of that hippo from the Silent Night adverts, or of a ‘borrowed from the boys’ shirt, but that’s what makes me love it. Since it’s cotton, it’s extremely lightweight and comfortable, as well as breathable, so it’s been perfect for the hot weather we’ve been having.
I teamed it with my PAIGE Jimmy Jimmy Denim Shorts, which I have had for years, to keep with the blue, casual theme, but as I didn’t want to look sloppy, I wore my Jimmy Choo Melba Boots and my Mulberry Mini Taylor Bag. I think the height of the boots and the extra feminine touches like my TRIWA Sunglasses and Our Theory Of Watch make it a good mix of both genders, in my opinion. Plus, as there was only shades of blue and brown in my look, I went for a bright red lip to add some extra colour to the outfit.
Usually when we go to the park, Adam and I like to shoot our photos in the Botanical Gardens as it’s full of wildlife and flowers, but this time we actually decided to take the photos in the main area of Royal Victoria Park. I think using the gold gates and the lion statues really stands out as a completely different location for us and it suited the outfit overall as it’s more on the masculine side. What do you think of my outfit? I would really love to know! I hope you are all about to enjoy a great weekend too! As always, you can shop my outfit pieces at the bottom of this post.

Well I’m pretty sure that you take a much smaller size than the hippo does. 😉 I get the reference but I would never have made that mental jump to thinking about it if you’d not mentioned it. 😀
It’s a lovely shirt, anyway. It’s simple without being boring and the shade of blue in the stripes is a really pretty one. Pairing it with those shorts makes for a very attractive combination. 🙂
The location is really nice too and actually reminds me a bit (due to lions and gates) of my local park – which is a Victorian park with the layout restored to as it would have been in the 1870s. Is your park Victorian too? I’m getting that feel from the photos. 🙂
Well, I think the hot weather ended in my part of the country today so, if you still have it, make the most of your summer outfits. 😀

I have no idea why it reminds me of the Silent Night hippo, Steven, but it just does, lol! It’s the first thing that popped into my head, though it’s not even nightwear, ha ha.
I thought the pairing with the shorts was good too as they help make the shirt the focal point as I think jeans (even though it was too hot for them anyway) would have taken the attention off the shirt. I will probably wear it with jeans in the coming months, but for this one, I really wanted to make sure the shirt stood out.
The park is Victorian I believe as it’s called Victoria Park, but then I don’t know if that’s because it was named after a Victoria, rather than it actually being Victoria. I’m not 100% sure on that one, but it’s gorgeous! I’m sure yours is just as lovely 🙂
Yes, I agree with you about the shorts. I’m not sure if jeans would fully take the attention of the shirt but they would certainly compete for it. 🙂 It’ll be interesting to see the shirt with jeans if you ever do such a post. 🙂
Yes, our park is really nice. It’s built on a hill so it’s multi-level and the view from the top is great. 😀
Author
That sounds lovely 🙂 I’ve never seen a hill park before! And I will definitely wear it with jeans at some point!
Oooops! I clearly didn’t fully digest the title of this post when I asked about the park… Silly me! 😀
Author
Ha ha, it’s ok! I did mention I’m not sure if it’s Victoria or just named after a Victoria. In fact, I’m going to research it now 🙂
Author
It states: It was opened in 1830 by the 11-year-old Princess Victoria, it was the first park to carry her name, and includes an obelisk dedicated to her.
Now if that serves me correctly, the park would actually be founded in Georgian times since Princess Victoria never became Queen until 1837, 7 years after she opened the park. However, since it’s named after her and so was the Victorian era, does it actually, technically make it Victorian, not Georgian? Thoughts, lol?
Hmm, it being opened in 1830 makes it even more difficult to decide what to call it. It depends upon the exact date in 1830 – was it under the reign of George IV or William IV ? 😀 But if it’s the first park to carry the name of Victoria then that’s a decent claim at being Victorian too. 😀
Author
Yeah, it’s a tough one isn’t it? Knowing exactly which to call it, ha ha! Adam reckons it’s Georgian with Victorian influence, ha ha.
Easier to call our park. The date is 1872 so that’s clear cut Victorian. 😀 Though the name isn’t so obvious. It’s simply called The Aboretum. 🙂 If you Google image search “The Arboretum Lincoln” there are lots of photos. 🙂

Oh wow :O That is stunning! It’s so beautiful! That pond you have and all those stone statues, just gorgeous!
Yeah, that pond with the two bridges is actually called “the lake” – obviously it’s nothing like a lake but that’s Victorian grandeur for you… 😉 Nothing ever knowingly under sold… 😀 It has a quite a lot of fish in it and ducks too. 🙂
Author
Sounds lovely, very much like the big pond/lake we have with a bridge over it 🙂
Incidentally, I took a photo of myself in the park last week wearing my lovely new shirt – it’s a present from my brilliant friend in the Netherlands. 😀 The pic is still very close to the top of my feed as I’ve been away from the internet over the holiday weekend. In the pic I’m sat on the rail of the park bandstand – which is painted in the same colours as it originally was in the 1870s. 🙂

This is such a chic outfit Lorna! I love the menswear-inspired look, and with the feminine touches you’ve added, it’s still elegant, and looks soft but strong. I also love the majestic lion statues which lend a certain grandeur to the photo shoot, and reflect the more masculine aesthetic of your outfit. What a stunning location.
p.s – You made me laugh when you mentioned the Silent Night hippo! I haven’t seen those ads in a long time.

Ha ha! I’m glad you laughed, Saba! I haven’t seen those ads in ages either, but it definitely brought back memories for me for some unknown reason! I mean I’m not even wearing pyjamas, so gosh knows how!
I think you’re right with the lion statues and the masculine touch of the outfit too, they really complement each other nicely. So happy you like it all! xx.
LOL! Maybe you’re secretly longing to have a duvet day, and your subconscious is trying to tell you something! Anyway, your shirt is very stylish and doesn’t look like the Hippo’s attire at all!
The lion statues are indeed very grand. It’s so picturesque in the main part of the park, so it was a great idea to take your pictures there. xx

Ha ha, you could be right! I have been working non stop lately, 12 hour or more days, so it’s taking its toll now. But it needs to be done! How are you anyway? xx.
I’m glad to hear work is going so well, and you’re giving it your all. But recharging your batteries is also a must, as it helps you return to your work in a fresh state of mind. I’m very well, thanks so much for asking. I’m hoping to run some errands this afternoon, but wanted to pay your blog a visit first! I hope you have a great week Lorna! xx
Author
That’s what I’m hoping to do, have some rest time to just enjoy it, after working a lot. It’s needed! Thank you for stopping by to see how I was as well, Saba! xx.
It’s an absolute pleasure, as always Lorna! xx
I’m about to leave the house for a quick shopping trip and you just gave me an idea on what to wear! Well, I don’t have the same clothes per say but something similar for sure! Thank you for the inspiration!

Lorna, I like your casual outfit… I think a stripe shirt is a classic piece of clothing all women can have, it is easy to dress up or dress down… This one look so great on you, it goes so well with your shorts and the pop of red on your lips is a great choice xox

Thank you so much, Launna! So glad you like it!
Oh I really like that shirt, I can see why you were drawn to it! Great for a casual outfit with the denim shorts, and the ankle boots and bracelet stack are great accessories with that bag to keep your outfit looking stylish 🙂

Cheery and informal. I still sort of giggle at the term “boyfriend shirt,” but at least I understand what it means, which I didn’t always. 🙂
Author
Oh! Yeah, it’s that term that it’s big and baggy since it’s borrowed from the boyfriend 🙂 Glad you like it!
Wow, amazing outfit. That shirt looks so good on you and those boots look so cute. A really good outfit for the Summer.
