Bedroom Inspiration

bedroom-inspiration-2

As you know, due to Adam and I getting engaged in July, we are starting to look at houses as inspiration for when we move in together after our wedding. We aren’t getting married for a few years yet, but that never stops me dreaming and looking at inspiration for rooms to do up exactly how we (I mean I really, ha ha!) want them. The first place I have always looked to for inspiration is the bedroom. As I live with my mum currently, I only have a small bedroom which is a complete mess as it acts as my closet, my sleeping area, and sometimes my work station, so there’s not much available space to do anything with it unfortunately, which is why I can’t wait until Adam and I can afford a place of our own to call home.

One thing I have always wanted is a separate room for a closet. As I’m sure you know, being a fashion blogger means I’m addicted to clothes and accessories, and I have LOTS of them, so a room dedicated to that is ideal for me and that’s what the spare bedroom will be in our own house, a dedicated closet! I know you Americans are extremely lucky in the sense that your houses generally come with walk in closets, but us Brits are never that lucky since our houses are much smaller, so we have to make our own plans. I did some closet inspiration before, but it would be clean and white with wooden floors and a fluffy rug, in short. I wouldn’t want my closet to be in my bedroom anymore as it’s too much for me.

So getting to my bedroom (I mean our bedroom), what inspires me? I’m very attracted to the white, fresh, and clean look that hotels often have, but I love the colour schemes of neutrals too. So I think I’d enjoy whites with monochrome greys thrown in or perhaps wooden shades instead. Plants are a huge part of my life as I adore nature, so there needs to be some green in the room as well in the form of numerous different plants which will bring it to life, and that will make the basis of the bedroom. A fluffy rug is a must have and so are some pretty, decorative pillows to go on the luxury bed linen (that’s a must as I’m such a light sleeper), and a couple of ornaments. I don’t want too many trinkets and things, so I would probably just stick to the plant pots, lamps, a candle or two, and something representative and pretty. I’m very much into art too though, so a painting above the bed would look fantastic! I might do one myself!

You may notice in this bedroom inspiration round up that I have included some clothes, well that’s because I feel like I will need a little clothing rail in the bedroom too, to house my brand new purchases. I often find myself inspired when I’m looking at clothing and when I get something new that I absolutely love, I want to be able to look at it and keep it close (is that weird?), so a rail to house my special pieces would be amazing! It would only be a simple one with a few things on it and some bags and shoes, but until I’m ready to put those pieces in the closet, I’d like them on a rail in my room. I think it would add a little lived in touch to the bedroom decor at the same time as providing inspiration for my work too. In my head, I know exactly how I would love our bedroom to look and parts of these photos below all blend into one to make the bigger picture. I would love to know what you have your bedroom like, or what your bedroom goals are?

These inspirations are all fabulous Lorna, and I especially love the idea of doing a painting yourself and displaying it above the bed! I also love the purple orchid plant you’ve pictured here! Purple orchids are my favourite, and they look divine and create a lovely atmosphere. I do love how pristine white can look, but then I get scared I’ll spill something and ruin it! So I favour neutrals, and also pastel shades which are a little more forgiving.

I hope the future will bring you much more space, and a walk-in closet to rival Paris Hilton’s!

Ha ha, a walk in closet that rivals hers would be crazy! I think she’s got an upstairs to her closet I believe. I know what you mean about white being a delicate colour though as you can spill things, but I only ever have a bottle of water at night, no food or juice etc in my room, so nothing would probably get spilled thankfully!

That sounds very sensible Lorna! I have the same habit. I never eat anything in my room, or upstairs at all! I get too worried I’ll cause crumbs, so I only keep a glass of water in my room! Paris Hilton’s wardrobe is enviable, and is basically the size of a house, haha! xx

It is, it’s gorgeous! Have you seen Mariah Carey’s and Ashley Tisdale’s as well? Rachel from Pink Peonies has an incredible closet too! I’m in awe of all these girls!

I saw Mariah’s closet on ‘Cribs’ a long time ago, and it was basically a giant boutique haha! It would be great if houses came with walk-in closets as standard! I’m sure you could get one designed for you, though it may be a little pricey! xx

Yeah I think that would cost thousands. It’s kind of crazy that I spend a lot of time designing how I would want my closet to be, something fun to do in my spare time. American houses are lucky when they come with closets. It would be so amazing if ours did!

Not weird at all Nd I am inspired cos I always want to stare at my new purchases too. I love a clean open white space and these are just beautiful. My home is massive and I am spread out in every room and still bursting at the seams. I look forward to when you get your home Lorna, I know you’ll do it up so pretty.

Thank you, Idu! I definitely hope to! Just hope that money will be ok and allow me to do what I want to do, ha ha. I’m glad you stare at your purchases too though, that makes me feel a lot better!

My bedroom is very small. I have a bed and my wardrobe along one wall. On the opposite wall are bookshelves and a sideboard (that used to be in my parents’ dining room) plus a tall chest of drawers. Everything is full to bursting with either clothes, books or DVDs. Then under the window I have my fish tank. 😀

I like your white inspirational photos – though I could never live with that colour scheme myself as, not being a great housework enthusiast, all that white would need such constant attention. LOL The plants are a nice touch. Any flash of green is always welcome. 😀 I ought to get a few easy to care for plants. 🙂

I hadn’t thought about the maintenance of the white, hmmm lol! It might not be so great after all since I’m not overly fond of housework either, but I don’t think I’d have anything to make it dirty so to speak. At least we have bursting bedrooms together so it’s not quite as bad. You should definitely get green plants though 😀

These are glorious. I have always been a huge fan of whites, greys, and neutrals. I must admit though, since I have dogs, I do prefer to have color spread in there to make my room look cleaner. But I still believe soft for the bedroom, always. And plants, lots of them.

Lorna, these inspirations are so classy and clean lines… very beautiful xox

I have heard that the rooms were smaller there, so I think it is a good idea to have one of the bedrooms as a closet for you… it would be wonderful to have it all organized in one room. I do think Britons tend to accumulate less…. which I think is good, we in North America tend to have too much, I think people are buying the things to fill empty voids but things never do that… …

I hope you don’t actually have to wait too many years for you and Adam to be married, maybe some thing will come along to make it happen sooner… I really hope so xox

I really hope so too! But where money is concerned, it’s definitely going to be some years, plus location is tough as well, choosing a place that suits us and our families both. It’s a tricky one! But yeah our rooms are tiny here, you definitely heard correctly. I can see why you would buy things to fill empty spaces though, it definitely makes sense. So glad you liked the inspiration!

Hi! I know this is a very late comment. But I absolutely love that dresser! Where can I find one that isn’t too expensive? Like I want the one exactly like you had! Please please respond!
