I thought it might be nice to round out my 2016 year with my favourite outfits from the 12 months. I’ve chosen my top 25 outfits of my own as it was really hard to narrow it down. I’m pretty sure I posted over 40 outfits in total (that’s a guess) and narrowing it down to 10 was impossible, 20 was more doable but it meant missing some out, so 25 was the final number. I will say that these outfits are not in order of favourite, but they are actually in descending order from newest to oldest (December back to January) so as you scroll down you will start to remember some from a year ago.
I’m also going to be writing under each outfit to explain why it’s one of my favourites and why it holds a special place in my heart. Please do tell me what your favourite outfit of mine was from 2016, even if it’s in my list or not. It’s important for you to comment and let me know (even if you never comment usually) as I’d love to be able to get an idea of which ones are loved most so I can do more along the same lines. If you don’t want to be known, just use an alias name and made up email address to keep your identity hidden, that’s perfectly fine! So here’s my top 25 fashion blogger outfits of 2016!
The Velvet Dress With A Leather Jacket – This one is definitely one of my favourites because it’s so festive! I managed to find out this velvet dress that I had lost for a year and it reminds me of the Christmas that I just had, plus I love the combination of the black and burgundy together. I tend to live in jeans 90% of the time so it’s nice to sometimes wear dresses in Winter as well.
The Cupcakes & Cashmere Faux Fur Leopard Coat – As faux fur goes, this one is my favourite. I had always wanted a leopard print faux fur coat and this one was perfect. It was also my first proper outing with my Chanel bag and wearing everything black with the leopard print was a look I loved. Not to mention it was really warm.
ALLSAINTS Leni Coat With Sam Edelman Blake Boots – This was one of my recent outfits after getting this coat a huge 30% sale. I usually buy a size UK 6 but got an 8 in this one so I could wear it with knitwear underneath even when it’s colder out. I got these gorgeous boots too after seeing them online and thought they would look great with the outfit. It’s one that I love with the mix of browns, taupes, and beige. Not to mention I’m wearing my beloved Celine.
The Tan Coat & Burberry Scarf – This outfit was definitely a huge favourite as I have had this tan coat for years, but never worn it much as it was always too big. This was the time I made it work with lots of layers underneath and by wearing it open. It meant I got to wear my new Burberry scarf with it as well, so it was a mix of Autumnal browns that I adored.
Burgundy Velvet & Black Denim – This one is my favourite for obvious reasons as it was my first outing in my Chloe Susanna Boots! Getting these was like a dream come true and I was so excited wearing them out. It was also my first outing with my Bvlgari Lvcea watch too, so this outfit holds warm memories for me when I think about it.
The Navy Knee High Boots Outfit – I like this outfit because it was one of the first times I was experimenting with blues more. I only tend to wear blue in the form of jeans, but I got my first pair of knee high suede navy boots this year and they make the perfect pairing with blue jeans. It’s an outfit that I would instantly recognise as ‘me’ even though it’s not my usual colour palette.
Topshop Grosgrain Lace Cold Shoulder Top With Jeans – This one reminds me of Summer! I got these cute espadrilles and this lace cold shoulder top, so styling them together was the perfect match. It was also the first time wearing these jeans, making the whole outfit new. It’s one I like a lot.
Topshop Black Bardot Cold Shoulder Frill Top – I think this is my first outfit with my Celine bag and it was also the first time I showed one of my Burberry Bear bag charms. I was very surprised with how flattering this cold shoulder top was when I got it, so I couldn’t wait to wear it, and this outfit turned out a lot nicer than I expected with the little pop of colour from the bear.
The ASOS Wrap Jumpsuit With Chanel Accessories – I was given this jumpsuit as a birthday present from one of my lovely readers so it holds a special place in my heart. It was my first time wearing a full length version and I chose to style it with two Chanel pieces, mixing high end with high street. It’s such a flattering piece, and so comfortable – I love it.
It’s My Birthday Today – This outfit of course is special to me as it was my birthday look. It’s crazy to think I was 28 this year, but I loved the whole pink combination. It reminds me of looking around for the perfect balloon, shooting these photos on the farm with the horses watching me. The farmers said they have never seen a balloon before, so they were analysing every inch of it, ha ha. The great thing about having a blog is that photos bring back so many stored memories.
It’s All Roses – This one I like a lot purely because of the dress and shoes. I really got more into dresses this year and the rose theme of this one was one that I really liked as it was a love filled year for me. The shoes are absolutely amazing too, aren’t they?
Sunsets On The Beach Of St. Ives – St. Ive’s! Sunsets on the beach in this beautiful vintage dress I had never shared with you despite having for years. The whole holiday was special for me (you will see why below) and I was full of love and happiness, so these photos bring back such a happy memory. Not to mention the backdrop was perfect for the dress.
The Coloured Beach Doors Of St. Ives – Now I don’t know if any of you noticed when I posted these photos before as I used to wear a smaller ring on my left wedding ring finger anyway, but this was shot about half an hour after Adam and I got engaged which is why I’m in the same outfit on the beach, and you can just about see a ring on my finger holding the shoes. We had gone to the beach to do the photoshoot and instead Adam proposed to me (see here) so this one will forever be in my heart, always. I loved the dress and the coloured doors, but the memories are everything.
It’s All In The Pastels – This outfit doesn’t hold any special memories, but I liked it because playing with pastel pinks, nude, and white was fun. I don’t often wear white jeans or such pale colours all over, so it was something different for me and I like it a lot.
The Suede Biker Jacket With Black Leather Pants – This outfit I love because it’s so edgy for me. The leather pants with the suede jacket and Louboutin heels was a combination I hadn’t ever paired together before as it’s almost close to double leather. The mix of brown, cream, and black though was one that I really like and this outfit is definitely a huge favourite.
Lace Up – Something simple and classic, but I love it so much. I had wanted a lace up top for so long and finally got this one, which I thought pairing it with a casual look would work well with. I went for a similar colour palette to the above outfit, but I like the added details here of the Chelsea boots and raw hems.
Tularosa Lace Denim Mini Skirt – This was right in the middle of a heatwave we were having and I remember being so hot, but the lace on the top got so many compliments from people I didn’t even know that it made me feel really good about my outfit. I had gotten very much into denim skirts as I don’t feel all that comfortable in denim shorts anymore as I’m getting older, so I like this one as it’s like a maturer me.
Blush Pink In The Enchanted Gardens – I walked into ALLSAINTS back in the Spring and found this pale pink blazer (you saw it above too) and decided it would be so nice paired with muted and neutral tones. I didn’t want it to be boring though so I chose to wear snake print boots to liven it up. I’m fond of the memories of this photoshoot as we were feeding the birds and squirrels in the park, one even got in our nut bag, ha ha.
A Pop Of Orange – This outfit here is proof to me that you make the most of a bad situation. We had been on our way to the beach (I wasn’t wearing this) and our car broke down. After we managed to get home, instead of wasting a Summery day and nice weather, we decided to do a photoshoot and went for a walk. I threw on some random pieces, headed towards a bridge we found and shot the photos there. Spontaneous and it worked out well, even if things were bad before.
The Black Leather Pants & Maroon Lace Blouse – I remember planning this outfit for so long. I finally got a pair of leather pants this year (my first pair) and I couldn’t wait to wear them. Lace up necklines were an addiction of mine so I got this burgundy shirt to pair with the triple strap heels and the whole outfit was beautiful. I really enjoyed doing this look and I know so many of you adored it too as it received so many compliments.
Mom Jeans And Liya – I pretty much always only wear skinny jeans. If I’m wearing jeans then 99% of the time it’s a pair of skinny jeans. This outfit is important to me as I was wearing mom jeans instead, which was different for me and I really liked how it turned out. It was funny as we got caught in a rainstorm before, but it dried up so the sun was making such a pretty glow off the wet floor. Plus, this was the first outfit that I started using retina images with as I had redesigned my blog and got a new MacBook.
These Boots Are Made For Walking – I had also gotten into roll neck sweaters a lot and chunky knitwear, so pairing this cream one with my grey skinny jeans was a uniform for me for a while. I layered over my shearling sleeveless jacket and wore these snake print boots for the first time too, finished with my Chloe bag. I love the mix of monochrome tones, but it’s very me.
My Valentine’s Day Outfit – This one doesn’t need much explaining as it was Valentine’s Day. The day of love! I got this burgundy corduroy dress to shoot photos with, but I actually ended up buying it I loved it that much. I thought boots and sweater was a good way to modernize it and make it more mature, plus Adam bought me those roses so it was a lovely day.
Waterfall Coats & Thigh High Boots – I loved waterfall coats a lot earlier this year and pairing them with thigh high boots was my favourite combination. This one doesn’t hold any memories at all but it was an outfit that I liked a lot because of the proportions.
My Old Zara Beige Coat With Leather Style Sleeves – Finally, we have this one from the beginning of January. This featured my old Zara coat that I hadn’t worn in years, so I decided to do an updated look using coated black jeans, my MCM bag for colour, and a Burberry scarf. I loved the proportions and mixed fabrics as well with this outfit, so it’s one I adore.
– So that rounds out my top 25 outfits of 2016 for me. Please do tell me which ones you loved and which ones that you liked that I haven’t included. The very top photo I’ve included using the Del Boy inspired coat is one I like too, but it didn’t fit into the 25, but I love it because I was so fond of the coat. You can see the full outfit of it here. Happy 2017! The next post is a brand new outfit. Lorna xx.

Great list Lorna! I especially liked the outfit featuring the high-waisted “mom” jeans! It’s a great look!

Thank you, Tommy! I do too, but surprisingly hardly anyone likes it at all!
That’s really too bad because it is a great look I think. Nothing wrong at all with skinny jeans, but I think some people don’t realize there’s so much more one can do with denim. A higher-waisted, more relaxed fitting pair of jeans can really change things up and present some great and interesting looks for an outfit.

That’s exactly how I feel! But not a lot of people get that as they think they aren’t very flattering at all it would seem. Such a shame!
The roses dress is defenitely my favorite! What a stunning dress!

I also liked the coats – shearling and black leather jacket. Well, as I said, if I go on, all will be a favorite, because you always look great!

My favourite outfit is the black denim overalls with a Saint Laurent clutch!
And I also love all of these (in no particular order): the Valentine day outfit, Blush Pink In The Enchanted Gardens, It’s All In The Pastels, It’s All Roses, The Tan Coat & Burberry Scarf, The Velvet Dress With A Leather Jacket, Leopard print and velvet, faux fur vintage inspired outfit, the lace embroidered Darianna dress, a pop of Orange, and the double denim and leather outfit.

Thank you so much! I didn’t know anyone would remember the names, but I liked the denim overalls and the YSL bag too! That one was inspired by fashion week 🙂
I went through your blog and copied pasted the names!! 😀

I’m so glad!
You look stunning as always in each of the outfits Lorna, and I remember them all clearly. I love the off-the-shoulder tops and cream lace top, as well as your floral dress in front of the Church, and the Valentine’s Day dress, and the burgundy velvet dress shown recently was beautiful. It’s hard to select a favourite look, as they all have different elements which I love. I adore the edgier outfits with denim and a strong silhouette, as well as the very feminine looks. It’s great that you wore a variety of looks in 2016, but somehow they still represent your signature style. It’s always a pleasure to read your posts, as you have a lovely writing style.
Your Miss Captain America shoot was also fantastic and very creative!
Lots of love Saba xx

Thank you so much, Saba! That’s the trouble I went through when trying to decide as they all have different elements that I really liked and are right for that particular outfit, so it was hard to choose. I honestly don’t think I can choose just one for the entire year. And thank you for the compliment on my writing, I’m so pleased you always love to read my posts. I know quite a few skip through the text and only see the photos xx.
You’re so welcome Lorna! I think it’s perfectly fine to have lots of favourites! You always write thoughtfully and include lots of interesting details in your blog posts, and I don’t want to miss anything! Sometimes I think writing is an underrated skill with fashion blogs which can go unnoticed. But I find strong writing skills just as important as high quality photography. Keep up the great work! xx

I do too, I don’t see the point in only just posting photos as it can come across cold and there’s no explanation about the outfit, so you don’t connect with it. I always like the story behind the choice of clothing and what the pieces mean to someone xx.
Happy new year! It’s so hard to pick a favourite outfit as you’ve had so many stylish ones! 🙂 I can see why you couldn’t narrow it down from 25! 🙂 I did really like the jumpsuit and vest outfit as I just got a vest in the boxing day sales and although it’s pink not nude I want to wear it with black next! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Hope you are having a wonderful start to the year and the first week of 2017 is going well!

Such a great collection of photos. 🙂
Of the dresses that you’ve picked I like the “It’s All Roses” and “Sunset on the Beach Of St Ives” outfits best. I think I originally described the Roses one as having a slightly ghostly feel to it (or words to that effect). It’s beautiful anyhow. The Sunset one is just simply gorgeous. I also have a soft spot for your “Valentine’s Day Outfit too” which is a really cute look.
Of the outfits involving jeans/denim I most like the “ALLSAINTS Leni Coat…” outfit which is such a classy and sophisticated look, the “…Lace Cold Shoulder Top…” which is an extremely pretty combinations of top and jeans and, of course, “A Pop of Orange” – which was so surprising at the time as I realised how little orange I had seen in your photos before – and it’s a colour which suits you so well…
I keep scrolling up and down this entry but no matter how many times I look my absolute favourite of your 2016 outfits hasn’t made it into your Top 25… :O I’m talking, of course, about “In The Navy” from 5th November. That is such an eye catching use of blue… I could remember the outfit so well but not what you’d called the entry… but luckily I didn’t have too much trouble finding it again. 😀 That’s this year’s clear winner for me anyway.
Congratulations on so many wonderful outfits again… as I’m always honest you’ll know that I only disliked one outfit in 2016 – and it’s impossible to please everyone all of the time. 😉
Author
I can’t remember which outfit is was you disliked, Steven, can you remind me? I do always appreciate the honesty! And yeah, as much as I liked the majority of the outfits I wore last year, I couldn’t include them all as the list was getting too long. I was contemplating including the navy one, as well as the grey coat with the navy over the knee boots as well, but I narrowed it down to these 25 in the end 🙂
I was surprised at how well orange suits me actually, but I used to love coral (the pink orange shade) years ago and all my clothes and accessories ended up being in a coral colour, so I used to wear orange ALL the time way back then. I guess I overdid it and got sick of it so didn’t wear orange as much, but you will be pleased to know I have new orange wellies which I’m sure you have seen on Instagram, so an orange top will making an appearance as well no doubt!
I’m afraid it was the “Mom Jeans…” outfit that was a miss with me. Sorry, as I know you particularly like it.
Oh, I’ll look forward to seeing all of these splashes of orange in the future then! (Splashes… puddles… wellies… get it? 😉 Yeah, you’re right… not funny…). Seriously though, I’m looking forward to seeing how you style the wellies. 😀
Author
Lol, you’re quite the joker! Oh yeah, the mom jeans one, I remember you not liking it now. That’s no problem! You’re gonna hate one I have planned for the coming months too then, ha ha. I am however hoping I can change your mind!
Oh “hate” will be too a strong a word even if I don’t like it. 🙂 OK, we’ll see… I will look at it with a completely open mind, I promise. 🙂
