Florida is an amazing state in the United States and it’s one that’s been on my list to visit for quite some time. Whenever I finally make the trip over to the US, California (mostly Los Angeles), New York, and Florida are the places I want to go. There’s just something so different about each one, a completely different vibe, yet they all resemble the ideal of the States that’s in my mind. I’ve spoken a lot about LA before and how it’s a dream of mine to visit, and obviously New York is a shopping capital, so that’s a given, to really see it in all its hustle and bustle, but Florida… it sounds amazing! So, here are 3 places that I want to visit in Florida.
Disney World
When I think of Florida, I wont lie, my first thoughts always drift towards Disney World! It’s only natural since it’s the biggest Disneyland on the planet, one in which you need about 2 weeks to get everything done, so of course I am desperate to go there for the ultimate Disney dream, but I haven’t even been to Disneyland Paris just yet, so all in good time. I can only imagine how amazing it is though since it’s in Orlando and the weather is mostly incredible. It’s constantly raining, cold, and grey here, so seeing Disney lit up by the sun sounds like a magical dream. I’m also not forgetting Universal Studios either, that would be included in my visit for sure.
Miami
Located in Dade County, this city is one of the most famous on the eastern seaboard, and for a very good reason. Miami has one of the best beaches in the state with crystal blue water and white sand, and even Fourth of July is popular there attracting millions to the celebration. There’s everything going on in Miami and I think it’s the place to stay if you want to have fun in Florida. They have festivals, incredible shopping, plenty of activities and with the beaches are gorgeous as they are, I imagine it feels like being in a tropical paradise. You all know I love animals as well, so a trip to Miami Zoo would definitely be on the cards too!
I’m not really a nightlife person, as I’m sure you’re all aware, so the night clubs and parties wouldn’t be my scene, but that doesn’t bother me because the daytime excitement is where I would be. I can just imagine Adam and I right now lying on the white sand looking out into the sunset, or over at the Miami skyline. The sunshine state would definitely bring sunshine into my life, that’s for sure.
Kennedy Space Center
Now this one might not be something you think I would be into, but I am a huge, huge, HUGE space nerd. Anything to do with space in general is a weakness of mine (you may have noticed since I named my other blog The Fashion Supernova). If I was in Florida already, I would definitely be living at Kennedy Space Center! Anything to do with learning about science and astronomy is exciting in my books and really being able to appreciate space travel would be incredible for me. NASA, I’m coming for you… soon, I hope!
– Have you ever been to Florida? I even hear Daytona Beach is fantastic, but I’m not completely sure it’s my scene. I would love to know some of your favourite places to visit so I can note them down on my travel list, if I ever get over my fear of flying that is. I’m desperate to travel to new places and explore, but it’s so scary! I am not surprised why so many people love Florida though, with its great beaches, excellent weather and numerous all-inclusive resorts. It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is, it’s still an amazing place to be because you can have fun in the sun all year round, as long as you avoid the devastating storms that can happen that is. So yeah, let me know where I need to go!

Wow! Kennedy Space Center looks unreal! It must be amazing to see that for real.

I know, right?
You won’t be disappointed! I lived in Clearwater in the 1990’s.

Oh cool, tell me more about it!
Well, it’s hot and humid in summer. I mean seriously humid, we used to say that if a person moves there and makes it through two summers, they’ll stay.
The ocean is of course beautiful as are many of the beaches on either side of the state.
Key West is a really nice place to visit, a must see. Beware the traffic along some of the coastal cities, it can be brutally congested.
If I leave Las Vegas, I’ll move back to Florida, Michigan is my home state but I don’t want to live in a cold climate anymore.
Hope I haven’t scared you!!

Humidity is a killer! It’s like that all the time in Summer here, it’s frizzy hair and sweating from morning until night lol. I’ve known Australian’s come here and say it’s hotter here than in their country purely because of the humidity, so I might manage! Ha ha. I feel you on not living in a cold climate, I can’t tolerate Winter here either. It’s from one extreme to the next!
I had no idea the humidity was high there. I went home to Michigan this past December for the family Christmas. It was the same old cold, dark dank daytime experience and I awoke to almost a foot of snow the next day. Having a heart issue, type 2 diabetes, not inclined to go back to cold weather!! I hope you’ve been feeling better Lorna. ❤️

Wow, we rarely ever get snow in the area I live of England, but definitely humidity! Hate it! And I can imagine having those issues you definitely wont want to go back to it! I’m not doing too bad, getting there. Thanks for asking!
You bet, be well Lorna. Most photos I see around England show snow mostly in the Mountain District I think it’s called.

Yeah, it’s always up north! Hardly ever down south in comparison and I live right down south.
Well, you mentioned California too and I have studied there – I would recommend San Diego, L, San Francisco, so many amazing places there, Venice beach, etc etc. But the fact is that I also want to go to Disney and so I need recommendations to Florida, as well! I really hope you can go there soon! Hope you have a very beautiful day!

Thanks 🙂
I did make it to Walt Disney World back around 1980; I didn’t go back, though I did later visit a friend who at the time lived in the northern suburbs of Orlando.
Florida is a fascinating place, what with 2200 km of coastline — you’re never far from the ocean — and twenty million people, most of whom seem to have recently arrived from somewhere else. One of these years I want to drive all the way down U. S. 1 to Key West.

That sounds like an amazing trip to plan! I never knew there were 20 million people though, that’s insane! What was Disney World like back in the 1980’s?
The Kennedy Space Center is awesome and definitely worth a visit!

Cool! Have you been?
I would also love to visit Florida one day! It’s always a beauty to hear stories of different places around the world. 🙂

It really is lovely 🙂
I have been to Florida and Disney World, it was so long ago I don’t have a ton of memories of it… just a few snippets. I have always wanted to go back with my two girls, I have a savings started and that will be the first place I want to go… I know my oldest would have to put some money away for the grandchildren as I know she wouldn’t go without them… 🙂 So, I can totally see why you would want to go Lana xox

That sounds fun 🙂 That sounds like a great family adventure!
I’ve never been to Florida – the only one of the southern US states that I’ve spent time in (three holidays) is Georgia which has so many lovely locations. 🙂
I’ve been to New York though when I was 14. We just had one day there and it was really nice but the heat was close to being too much for me and that was just in June. If I ever went again I wouldn’t want to do it in summer. 🙂
Author
Yeah, that’s funny you say that as I thought Georgia would have been way hotter than NY?
Yes, I’m sure Georgia does get even hotter than NY. 🙂 My three holidays in Georgia there were March 2003, November/December 2003 (both mostly in Macon) and April/May 2008 (in Savannah – which a beautiful place) . So I was never there at peak heat… But it was still easily as warm as a British summer even in late April and Early May. I was in short sleeves for all of that holiday and in shorts for some of it too. 🙂
Author
Oh wow, that sounds warm! I bet it’s lovely there!
Absolutely, if you get a spare moment Google some photos of Savannah. 🙂 It has a very old world European vibe to it. 🙂

Wow! It looks absolutely incredible there! No wonder you liked it.
These are some gorgeous places! loving it

Hopefully you get to go too!
Hope you get a chance to visit Florida multiple times, as Florida is so much more than Disney, Miami and KSC. Grew up in Winter Park in the mid to late 60’s, and watched Disney being built. Our family got in for free a few weeks before they opened (Dad was a contractor). That era, you needed tickets for all the rides, which ranged from A to E, hence, the origin of “an E-Ticket” ride for the big and fast rides. That era, we could drive through KSC and Patrick AFB (just south of KSC), as my Dad was retired AF and had the base sticker on his car. Sister currently lives just south of Miami, with an easy drive into the keys.
If you have a chance, get away from the crowds in the big cities and tourist attractions. Take a stroll through Bok Gardens (https://boktowergardens.org) one day, grab your bathing suit and a picnic lunch and enjoy the springs at Wekiwa Springs park another day (https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Wekiwa-Springs). These are my memories of central Florida, will give you a better view of the ‘real’ Florida.

Oh wow! That sounds amazing to have gotten into Disney early, away from the crowds! It’s crazy to think how so much has changed. And I’m not really a crowd type of person or into the night life, so the Bok Gardens look lovely, and a picnic sounds great too. Thank you for those suggestions! I’m always into the local things that are away from touristy areas as it’s experiencing places for what they really are!
Wow these locations sound amazing Lorna, and you’ve obviously researched them a lot! It would be so lovely to experience Miami beach and to enjoy the sunshine and lively atmosphere. Hopefully you’ll overcome your fear of flying in the future. You could start by taking a short flight somewhere more local, then venture further away and build up your confidence gradually, so that a bigger trip becomes less daunting. Also, where is your Fashion Supernova blog that you mentioned! I want to see it!
Lots of love Saba xx

Oh I’ve had that blog for years, but I don’t write on it anymore. It’s http://thefashionsupernova.com if you want to check it out. It was a general fashion blog, not a personal one, but it became too much to have 3 blogs to work on constantly. And I was thinking about having a short flight, but I’m still terrified to even do that! Lol!
Wow Lorna! I’ve visited The Fashion Supernova and it looks so professional and has lots of interesting content! I never knew you had that blog as well! Maybe it can be revived in the future!
As for the flying, I can certainly relate to your fears. Even though I went on flights regularly as a youngster, the thought of it is too much for me to handle now! But apparently, experiencing a little bit at a time (‘graded exposure’) is the best way to overcome such fears, so it’s worth a try! xx

It’s definitely worth it if I can bring myself to make that step. It’s getting over the dreaded thoughts first, lol!
