My Gucci Double GG Tan Belt With Gold Buckle Review

When it comes to belts, you have probably noticed by they lack of presence on my blog that I am not really a fan. I’ve never really worn them as I’ve always found them to be unnecessary when it came to my outfits, or they didn’t really suit my style or jeans. So it’s safe to say that I haven’t ever liked belts all that much, apart from the odd occasion where I wore a little thin one. That however has all changed since falling in love with the Gucci Double GG Belts

I had been seeing these Gucci GG Belts everywhere on fashion bloggers, celebrities, and Instagram icons, but I always put it to the back of my mind thinking I wouldn’t like the belt on myself, just on others. The months went by and I would still find myself staring at the belt and loving it even more, but I never had the courage to buy it because it was expensive and I didn’t think I would even like it in person. I decided to bite the bullet a few weeks ago after saving up. I purchased the Gucci Tan Double GG Belt with a Gold Buckle in the 4cm size because shipping and returns were free, so if I didn’t like it, it didn’t matter.

I was debating for weeks whether I should get the 1.5cm style or the 4cm style, but I thought that the smaller one was too small and the bigger one was too big. I even got in touch with Gucci to see if they did the belt in 3cm, but they didn’t, so I finally chose the 4cm and decided if I was going to make a big purchase like this, I might as well make a statement with it. So I had to order it on back-order since it’s so popular and was sold out everywhere, and then it finally came weeks later and to my surprise, I fell in love with it. The moment I took it out of the box and put it on, I never wanted to take it off. Ever! So let me get to my review of the belt for you and how to measure it as well below.

How To Measure A Gucci GG Belt

I’m starting out with how to measure the Gucci belt first because this was something that I struggled with for ages. The instructions on the website were not clear and the sizes run in increments of 5cms each. I had no idea if you measure your waist where your belly button is and then that gives you a size you might need, or if you needed to go by your jeans/trouser size etc. It was very complex!

In the end, I found out that you need to measure where you want the belt to sit. So if you do want it around your belly button, you measure there in cms, or if you want it on your hips, you measure there and get your cm size. For me, I wear my belts on my high rise jeans, so it’s somewhere in between my hips and belly button, which is where I measured. I took this Gucci Double GG Belt in size 85 as my measurement around the top of my jeans was 85cm. So whatever you measure in cm is the corresponding Gucci belt size.

When I got my belt, I measured it from the prong on the buckle (the pin that goes into the holes) to the end of the belt and I saw that the middle hole was where the measurement of 85cm ended up. So if you need to know how the measurement works, it will be from the prong on the buckle to the middle hole of the belt.

There are 5 holes in total on this belt so you have 2 holes either side of the middle hole to wear your belt a bit lower or higher, or if you lose or gain some weight, you are covered with the 5 different placements. As you can see above, the gap between each hole is about 2.5cm in length, so this belt can actually be used as a size 80 or 90 if you use the first or last holes. It’s very forgiving in sizing. I hope that helps!

The Design – The design of this belt is actually what made me fall in love with it. I adored the big bold metal GG on the leather as I think the big statement buckle is gorgeous. It comes in multiple colourways for leather, lots of designs too, and the GG buckle comes in silver or gold. I chose gold as I think it complements the brown perfectly – it’s stunning. I can see why so many people love this accessory. It now makes me want the black version as well!

The Quality – The leather smells like a high quality leather and the unfinished look it has to it is nice too. It’s like a worn in, slightly distressed tanned leather, which is a great quality. The buckle itself is very sturdy, quite heavy, and very well made. It’s like a brass metal and you can tell by the weight that it’s really decent. I definitely can’t fault the quality. It’s made in Italy too, which says a lot. It even has a little strap of its own which is attached to the belt loop so it can’t slide too far down the belt. It’s little things like that which make it great.

The Fit – As I mentioned above, I took size 85 and it fits absolutely perfectly in the middle hole. The 4cm width fills up the belt loops on my jeans perfectly, there’s no gapping at all at the top or bottom of the loops as it has a very snug fit. The GG buckle is a bit bigger than the width of the belt, so it’s enough to stand out against the strap itself. I actually got the perfect size in the end! Since the leather is distressed and worn in anyway, I’m not worried about the edges of the strap getting rubbed when sliding it through my belt loops either.

The Packaging – It came in its own gift box and dust bag, so it definitely feels luxurious getting a belt with a dust bag and box, you definitely know you’re getting something designer and it’s a nice added touch with the price being what it is. I do think £300 is quite expensive for a belt, but whenever you buy something designer you pay a lot for the name mostly and the experience you get. It’s definitely fancy though, it feels like a very special purchase.

Overall Opinion – I literally have nothing bad at all to say about this belt. I am completely in love with the design of it, the way it looks when worn, how versatile it is, how it glams up any outfit, the quality of it, the luxurious packaging… There’s not one negative thing I can say! I was hoping I wouldn’t like it so that I could return it, but as my first venture into the Gucci brand, I couldn’t be happier. If you don’t like belts and are thinking of this one, you will love it. I can safely say from someone who doesn’t like belts, this Gucci Double GG Belt is the most perfect belt there is!

So far I’ve worn it with my denim skirt (see here), my blue jeans, and my black jeans numerous times. I find myself reaching for it out of habit now! So you are definitely going to be seeing this belt a lot in future outfits. What’s your opinion on the Gucci Double GG Leather Belt in 4cm? Do you like it?

It looks great. 😀 It looks especially good with the cat shirt and jeans outfit but also works perfectly with the other outfits too. Great purchase for you but you made me laugh with the comment that you were hoping you wouldn’t like it! 😀

I had noticed that you tended not to favour belts but I didn’t think about it all that much as some people are belt people are some are not. I always wear a belt but don’t really have any special ones.

Yeah, I’ve found that too, some people like belts and some people don’t. I always fell in the latter category, but I think I’m a changed person now 😀 I love this one so much! And yeah, I truly was hoping to not like it so I could send it back and keep my money, but that was not the case, ha ha 🙂

This belt definitely adds a glamorous touch to your outfits and looks very eye-catching on you Lorna! I don’t wear belts much either, as I find them uncomfortable. Although it’s a very expensive accessory, the belt looks very elegant on you, and I’m glad you love it!

    Lots of love Saba xx

It’s about time for somebody to write a review about this belt. I’ve been keen on this too, I like looking at them in Instagram but I never had any chance to go to Gucci shop for it. Thanks for the nice review, I have the same regard about belts but like you this one is different and of course the hottest belt at the moment.

I am a size 27 in jeans in premium denim brands, a size 29 in jeans from Topshop. High rise that I wear is about 9-10 inches, but you can just measure the area you want the belt to sit at and it’s correct for your belt size. Wherever the top of your jeans are, measure that in cms and it’s that size you should buy. Thanks!

Loved it, with the “unfinished” look, a great belt! I liked the tan color and Gucci has a great quality, for sure. It’s good to take a look when buying, whether returns are free, and so, it didn’t matter much if you didn’t like the belt. It happens that you did, and I loved it! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Like you, I have never ever thought that a belt is needed in my wardrobe but recently have been warming up to the idea of owning one. I probably won’t splurge on a designer one though or at least not until I know for certain that I would enjoy wearing one.

Hi, can I ask pretty please, whah size jeans or trousers do you take normally? In other words, what jeans size does the 85 belt correspond to? I measure 35cm around my hips but CANNOT decide on a size. I usually fit a UK size 10.

Hi, I wear a 27/28, so a UK 10 too pretty much, but this depends on rise. It depends where you want the belt to fit you, you just measure where you want the belt to sit with a tape measure and that’s the size you choose. It will be different if you had a 7 inch rise jean and a 10 inch rise, so jean correspondence might not be hugely useful. Hopefully that helps! There’s 5 holes in general so you have room to shorten or lengthen.

Hi ! I noticed the belt looks lighter brown in some pictures and darker in others. Could it be the flash that maybe makes it look lighter ? Is this a “tan” or “brown” belt online ?

Hi! I don’t use flash with my photos as they’re taken outside in natural daylight, so it would just be variations of light on that day. This belt only comes in this brown shade, there’s no other brown ones. It used to be called tan, but it looks like they changed the name to brown. It’s the exact belt I link to in the review on the Gucci website, the same exact one I purchased. Hope that helps!
