My Experience With Symprove

A Review On Taking Symprove For 12 Weeks

I have mentioned briefly a few times within my posts about starting Symprove around 14 weeks ago. Once my 12 week course was complete, I said that I would update you and do a full blog post on my experience with it and how I found it, so here you go! You know that I recently found out about my food intolerance’s and then I went on to find out that I also have Leaky Gut Syndrome, so my digestive system has been a complete nightmare recently and pro-biotics have been a must have for me.

So for those of you who aren’t familiar with Symprove and haven’t heard of it before, it’s a water-based multi-strain supplement that contains 4 unique strains of live activated bacteria. Included in it are: L. rhamnosus, E. faecium, L. acidophilus, and L. plantarum. It’s basically a water based pro-biotic that’s designed specifically for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which I also have). Normally a healthy gut would already contain all four of these gut bacteria, however when it doesn’t, it can soon become unbalanced and cause a lot of problems, as I’ve definitely found out from my unbalanced flora.

When I first found out about Symprove, I did wonder what makes it so different to all the others on the market. The difference is that the bacteria within it is alive and active in the bottle, which is why it needs to be kept refrigerated, and most importantly, because it’s water based, it doesn’t trigger digestion which means all of the good bacteria survive the stomach acid, which most don’t. A lot are usually inside food or dairy products, which do help in travelling through the acid, but most of them don’t make it past our stomach, so they are pointless to us after we have taken them. I’ve watched many studies on the best way to take pro-biotics before and the quicker it gets out of your stomach, the more efficient it is. So essentially, as Symprove is water based, it goes straight to your intestines where it can start working its magic.

Every milliliter of Symprove contains about 200 million live, active bacteria. The dosage that I was taking is a cap full, which was around 60-70ml, so you can tell that’s a LOT of good bacteria you are getting. One of the best things about this brand though is that doctors and researchers actually recommend it. Independent research by University College London (UCL) shows Symprove can Arrive, Survive and Thrive in targeted areas of your gut quickly and effectively. If it’s proven by science, it must be good! It’s also gluten and dairy free, and yeast free, so it was perfect for me to take with my intolerance’s. With all the knowledge about Symprove having been given to you now, let me share with you my review below.

You can also buy Symprove on Amazon now by clicking here.

What was my experience with Symprove? It was actually mixed as I went through a process with it from start to finish, so it was definitely quite a journey! It comes in two flavours: Original and Mango and Passion Fruit, so I had to choose the Original due to it being pure and not containing any other ingredients that could flare up my sensitivities (I was erring on the side of caution). Now, I cannot give the taste of Symprove a thumbs up or lie about it, it really tastes terrible and to begin with I dreaded taking it. But everyone was saying to me ‘the good things always taste the worst!’ and I generally know that to be true. I’d gotten myself into a routine of taking my Symprove and not breathing through my nose or mouth at all while I did that for a couple seconds and then brushing my teeth immediately after, so the mint taste would mask the taste of the product. That seemed to work really well for me, but if you’re not sensitive to any ingredients, I really recommend you try out the flavoured version instead. I haven’t tasted it, but I’ve heard it’s quite pleasant.

It’s designed to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach and you need to wait about 10 minutes after taking it before you can eat or drink, this is to ensure the drink goes straight through the stomach and into the intestines without triggering the digestive acids that kill the bacteria. It’s very clever! So when I first started taking it, I didn’t notice any difference at all for a good few weeks. I had gotten into my routine with it everyday and never missed a dosage, but because my digestive system is really badly damaged, I don’t think I noticed any difference until about 10-11 weeks in. It really took that long for anything to work because I’m such a severe case. I’ve read reviews online and it’s been a lot faster for a lot of people, so it depends on the damage you have inside and I don’t think my Leaky Gut Syndrome or my food intolerance’s were helping matters to be honest, which is why I didn’t want to do a dedicated blog post until I had completed the 12 week course.

What changes happened while taking Symprove? I actually did notice changes. I know it took a long time as I stated, but I definitely felt positive progress. Over time the cramping in my intestines was getting a lot better and it wouldn’t cramp as much as it used to at all. Often my IBS would cause my intestines to cramp up and contract all the time, no matter what I did, but I will say that there was a definite decline in that. Plus, I was also able to then tolerate other foods a lot better than I could before I took it. I actually dread to think what a state my gut flora would be in if I wasn’t taking a pro-biotic and still going through all of these issues that I have, I’m sure it would be much worse.

Now that I haven’t been on Symprove for around 2 weeks, I’m worried things are going to go backwards for me, but we will see. It might be a case of me needing to be on a maintenance level for the rest of my life since my gut is so poorly, but I don’t know what the future holds for now. I’ve seen for other people that they haven’t had any bowel flare ups at all after they are settled in with Symprove and that’s amazing! The 12 week course can be enough to get your gut bacteria back on track and then your body does the rest with a varied, healthy diet. However, I don’t think I am going to be one of those people with the amount of damage I have.

Would I recommend Symprove? Changing your gut floral into a more positive and healthy environment really does seem to be key in fixing any issues, so if you have IBS or are experiencing some unbalanced bacteria issues then I definitely do recommend it. I would double check with your doctor first that you don’t have any allergies or medical reasons for your symptoms, and if you come out with IBS or an upset digestive system, I definitely recommend Symprove. It takes a while to work and once you get past the taste, it’s easy to take every morning. I personally noticed improvement towards the end of the 12 week course so I would like to think it would help you too with your digestion and issues, just make sure you stick with it. I’ve not read anything negative about it at all online, which is really good, so I’m probably not the only one who would say that they recommend it to you if you want some good bacteria that survives stomach acid. If the NHS here recommend it, it’s definitely a great product. Have any of you tried out Symprove before? If you have, what was your experience?

Disclaimer: Even though I am collaborating with Symprove by receiving their product, this review is 100% my own opinion and not influenced in any way. The opinions are my own and 100% honest.

I took a 12-week course for diverticulosis, and whilst taking it, I didn’t have a bout. About a month after I went away to Germany for a few days and immediately got another bout. We were travelling for most of the second day and I didn’t drink enough water which may have contributed. A lot of people who have diverticulosis get dehydrated. My diet is packed with fresh produce and fibre but I still haven’t found out the cause – except that members of my family also have it. I’m trying a tablet probiotic from the US at the moment but may go onto a maintenance dose of Symprove. The downside for most people is the cost.

My mum has diverticulitis, she has about 3-4 pockets and I keep telling her to try it too as I’ve heard such great things, but like you mentioned, it is quite expensive. Hopefully you’re able to maintain your episodes with a maintenance course of it. I will definitely keep people updated with how I get on and see if the maintenance works. It’s no fun having such digestive issues, I know, so I hope you manage to find something that works for you. Thank you for leaving a comment and sharing your experience, Angela! Definitely stay in touch with your progress too xx.

I know a friend with IBS and stomach issues too, so this is really interesting. It seems like more and more people are having digestive issues now, which is horrible, but it’s great companies like this are trying to help xx

I know, it really does. I think it’s to do with the more processed food we eat as time goes by and how our bodies are not designed to be eating it, which causes reactions.

Happy to hear you’ve had a good experience with these! Masking the task of the liquid with a mint mouthwash sounds like a great idea.

What a fascinating item. I have a couple of companions who experience the ill effects of IBS and gut issues, so it is extraordinary to peruse about items like this and know they work! I should prescribe it to my companions.

Hi, i’ve just started a course of Symprove for the first time, I’m hopeful about the results. Thanks for your article I have IBS-C and gastritis and undiagnosed leaky gut I’m sure. A lot of people say Symprove is expensive but when you calculate the cost per day it comes to the same as a cup of coffee and you can’t put a price on feeling well!
One small note : its **erring on the side of caution** not airing. Err is an archaic word for stray or wander.
