Joules Wellibob Ankle Rain Boots in Dog Print Review

Joules Wellibob Rain Boots in Dog Print Review

As it’s my birthday next week, one of my friends (the same friend who bought me the Hunter Coral Wellies last time) wanted to buy me a present and one of the items I had been eyeing up for a while was a pair of the Joules Wellibobs. I’ve been a fan of the Chelsea ankle boot wellington since last year as they’re so easy to wear for running errands. They’re not bulky or cumbersome in any way, and they’re cute! Since I was allowed to have these Wellibobs in Dog Print early (just as well, it’s been raining every day!), I wanted to share a review with you and help any of you out that are looking to buy a pair of ankle wellingtons.

Joules Wellibob Ankle Rainboots Rating:
Comfort – 8/10
Style/Print – 9/10
Size – 9/10
Ease of wearing – 10/10
Waterproof Protection – 9/10
Price – 10/10

Comfort – I gave these an 8/10 purely because they’re incredibly soft, roomy, and spongy on your feet, so they’re very comfortable to walk in, and I would have given them a 10, however when you don’t wear socks that are long enough to cover your ankles, the rubber on the elastic inserts rubs against your ankles and creates blisters. I found that out on Saturday when I wore them around town, but luckily I took longer socks with me. They will be fine for quick use with low cut socks, but if you’re planning on wearing them for a longer period of time, longer socks are needed to prevent friction and rubbing. Other than that, they’re incredibly comfortable and don’t hurt your feet one bit! They aren’t heavy either, or bulky, like taller wellies can be.

Style/Print – This is what attracted me to the Wellibobs from Joules in the first place. I loved the navy and yellow colour combination, the fact that they’re matte and not gloss, and the little doggy print all over them. It’s a unique wellington and a pair that I look at with a big smile on my face. Even though Adam doesn’t like them as he’s not a huge fan of wellies, he actually changed his mind and said they didn’t look too bad worn, after he hated on them pretty badly. The dog print is the same on each shoe, and is printed on to the rubber before the wellies are made, so they are slightly off from each other, but nothing major. The Joules logo itself is really subtle, and the rounded toe of the wellies, with the wider ankle opening, makes them look really flattering around the ankle actually.

Size – I wasn’t sure whether to go with a size UK 6 or 7 as I vary between the two, but I opted to choose the 6 since they would be for summer, and I would only need thin socks. I can feel my toes just at the end, just vaguely touching the rubber, but it’s by no means uncomfortable. I would say they are very true to size, and the front half of the boot is quite wide actually so even if you have a wider foot, I think you should fit these just fine. Due to the rounded toe curve, my big toe touches the end much more than my other toes, but if you size up, they’re way too loose and sloppy. I have a 7 in the spotty pair with the fleece lining as I want them for winter with thick socks, so if you plan on a summer pair, go with the smaller size that you might take, if you’re between sizes. They’re much more true to size than the Refined Hunter Chelsea Boots, I had to take a UK 7 in those and they’re still tight even with thin socks.

Ease Of Wearing – This is what I love the most about my Joules Wellibobs. Living in England means it rains pretty much all the time. We’re famous for our grey, overcast skies and needing an umbrella at all times, just in case, so these ankle wellies are ideal. You can literally just slip your foot into them and off you go. There’s no struggle to put on a tall wellington boot and there’s no bulkiness when you’re getting in and out of the car or needed to squat down. They’re just like wearing a normal pair of ankle boots, except they’re waterproof. That’s why they get 10 out of 10 for this one. There’s no complaints at all with how easy they are to wear. I’ve worn them 4 times already and I even find myself embracing having an easy shoe to put on and feel like I should wear them even when it’s not raining, just because I can’t be bothered with laces and any other hassle that other shoes give me, ha ha.

Waterproof Protection – Now the most important part is the waterproof protection! I gave these a 9 because they are completely waterproof everywhere, there’s no doubts about that as you can see from me splashing in the puddle, but because they are a short ankle boot with a wider leg opening, sometimes a few rain drops can slip down the top. It only happened a few times if I was splashing hard or when the rain was absolutely hammering down, but it was enough for me not to give the full marks of 10. I think these are mostly designed for summertime with light showers or just wet walks, and you should obviously keep your tall wellies for heavy rain, so none can creep in the top. With that being said though, they do their job perfectly and for their price, you honestly can’t go wrong!

Price – Finally, we have the price! The Joules Wellibob retail value is only £36.95, which is a super good deal in itself, however mine were on Amazon for only £28, which is even better again! When you’re used to paying the prices for Hunter wellies or even Rockfish wellies, this is like an absolute bargain you can’t pass up on! They really do get a 10/10 for the quality of the boots for the lower price point they have. I can’t fault that in any way. How much did you think they were going to cost? I’ve even seen some pairs on Amazon that are older stock selling for less than £15!

Overall Opinion – If you have managed to get this far in the review, I’m sure you can already guess that I love these Joules Wellibobs with a passion! The navy and yellow dog print ones are my favourites, much more than the spotty ones but that’s purely because I have the bigger size in those and they don’t look as cute. The navy and yellow combination is extremely versatile, especially for my jeans, and it will match my yellow raincoat too, so that’s a win! They’re comfortable (with socks), spongy, soft, and completely waterproof, so I think my overall rating is a 9.5 in the end! Bar a couple of the notes that I mentioned, I couldn’t love them anymore than I do! I definitely recommend you get a pair of Joules Wellibobs if you enjoyed my review! I loved your Joules ankle rain boots and I want a pair! OK, you said that longer socks are needed to avoid friction, and that is why they got 9 our of 10 points… and because they are ankle boots they didnt get waterproof maximum points either, but still, they are so lovely! I am heading to amazon now to get a pair! Hope you have a lovely week!

That you’ve worn them 4 times already really does tell the tale of this year’s summer! 😀 A very timely present indeed. 🙂

They’re very nice anyway. The dogs are cute and I like the colours too. 🙂

Wellibobs is an interesting name… when I was a kid I used to hear that used a lot as a kind of childish slang name for ordinary wellies. I don’t know if that was just a regional thing though… Hmm… 🙂

Oh really? I haven’t heard of the wellibobs name before I heard it at Joules! How long has that been around? 😀

And I know, 4 times already in the summer! And today when I wore my Hunter pair, LOL 🙂

How long? At least 40 years I guess as I heard it as a really young child. Growing up on the farm wellies always played a big part in my life then. 😉

Definitely a cute shoe. (And your comfort-assessment routine should be a model for the industry: everyone should rate shoes that way.)

That is such a beautiful boots! Thank you for the heads up about longer socks to avoid blisters, that’s the one thing I hate about new shoes in general, I usually get new blisters too.

Wow Lorna, very cool those Welliebobs. You know I’m quite a wellie fan but I like these a lot.. I didn’t know they were called that, I have seen Chelsea boots made for rainy days but these are different and so cool. You look amazing in them, I can imagine they are more comfortable in Summer than Winter or Autumn.

I am trying to keep dry feet with my new Docs with Union Jack on them and a pair of low ones with George and the Dragon.

Nice booties Lorna! Although I usually prefer tall willies.
The comparison with tall willies sonds really negative. Do find it really so cumbersome and a struggle to get tall wellies on? Are theiy so bulky? Aren’t tall wellies giving a much higher grade of protection? I hope that you will still wear all your tall wellies and don’t throw them away!
    Greetings
    Thomas

      Hi Thomas,
Yeah, when I’m just going to the shops it’s much easier for an ankle boot. The tall ones are cumbersome and heavy sometimes as I am quite a petite person. I still love my tall wellies, would never throw them away. They’re just more suited to the Winter time. I wore them last week though, my Loganberry Hunter’s as I went in the stream. That’s on my Instagram!
      Thanks!

        Hi Lorna!
Interesting thing, because I always feel my willies as an “easy slip in”, although sometimes it takes a bit an effort and depending on the pants am wearing, they are the more difficult thing to tuck them perfectly inside of the boots.
Good to hear that you will not throw away all your tall willies and will not give up your fidelity to them ;-).
What a cute video in instragram, so cool! What an cool idea to take a walk in the countryside and to splash around in a stream! You’r always good for a surprise! You seem to have a lot of fun. Your mother looks great in her wellies too! What kind of boots is she wearing? Also Hunters? Has she the same size as you so that she can wear some of yours or are these her own? Does she like to wear wellies too?
        Greetings

          Hi Thomas,
My mums are Rockfish, she has the adjustable black gloss. We aren’t the same size, so these ones are her own wellies. I actually bought them for her for Mother’s Day earlier this year.

Oh, Rockfish wellies! Really nice! I just recognized, that they have wellies for men too! And with adjustable shafts! That is really an goot invention, making tucking in pants a lot easier. Are you still satisfied with your boots from rockfish? Are they recommendable and from good quality. Do you both feel comfy in them?
What a kind idea from you to buy some wellies for you mum as a present! So you can enjoy walks throughout the conuntryfields together and she is well protected on rainy days.
            Thanks and greetings
            Thomas

What was the size fitting like? I’m from Canada and almost always wear US 8 (EU 39) and want to know if I can order exactly EU39 or if I should go up or down!

Hi! They are pretty true to size, I’m a standard 39 in most places (sometimes a 40 in European shoes) and took a 39 in these. I hope that helps!

Thanks for your comments =) I read & reply every one =)
