A Quintessentially Modern British Autumn Outfit With Joules

The Joules Gosling Coat With Balenciaga Race Runners

I decided to name this blog post something along the lines of a quintessentially British look during the Autumn weather, purely because it is. This time of year when I’m out, I always see puffer coats absolutely everywhere and they’re always worn with skinny jeans and sports shoes. It’s somewhat of a completely classic English look for the modern day. We all love comfort and casual, and since most of these padded jackets are waterproof and warm (mine isn’t waterproof), it’s perfect for the weather that we usually have here. Since it chops and changes from cold to hot quite frequently, it’s ideal to wear a lightweight top underneath so you can remove it when you’re too hot.

I can safely say that 95% of the people I know and see around would own a jacket that’s padded. The usual colour is a khaki green, navy, or black, but I went a step further and opted for a burgundy purple shade. This one is by Joules and it’s the Gosling in Burgundy (more like plum). I bought it when I had 25% off from the brand and took a size UK 8, so it runs fairly true to size. I absolutely love it! It’s so comfy, cosy, warm, and easy to wear, I actually grab it all the time and never want to take it off. The faux fur around the collar is also removable if you want to just have it as the jacket, but it really keeps your neck snug. I even ended up with the navy version as well for different days and outfits!

For this particular look, I decided to pair my Joules Gosling with my James Jeans Black Skinny Jeans to keep it neutral, and then finish it off with my new Balenciaga Race Runners in Purple. How amazing are they? I recently bought them after saving up for a pair of amazing sneakers that made a statement, and these are definitely it! They’re metallic in parts and different shades of purple and black in others, plus incredibly comfortable. I will be doing a separate review on these soon for you, so stay tuned for that, but I think they’re the perfect match for the coat and the jeans. Don’t you? It’s a look that I am very fond of and one I wear often for casual days.

I definitely recommend this coat to you though, if you need one that’s warm and cosy, plus stylish, this could be it. It even comes in a longer version too (see here) which might be even warmer, but mine is available in this shade, navy, yellow, and red. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

P.S. – Get 25% off at JOULES with the code FLY25. Ends 29th – tomorrow.

Oh I love all of this purple! ANd the shoes and coat do go so perfectly together, like they were made for each other!

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone here in that kind of coat – mainly bloggers I see online with it ha, only because it’s so warm here. So it’s definitely a very British outfit 🙂

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend! We got outside to enjoy the sun a little today which was nice, after a tough day yesterday with an unwell toddler!

I love all of the purple here. 🙂 Those shoes are great and I like how they feature more than one shade and texture of the colour. Your coat is lovely too. Purple is a colour that I wish I had more of… I have one purple pullover and that’s about all, really, despite it being my 2nd favourite colour.

Anyway, I think this outfit is a terrific look for you going into the colder months. I certainly agree with you that it’s a very British look. I see so many variations on these theme whenever I walk into town… but you’ve raised it up a level here for sure. 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I love the purple too, it’s such a bright and fun colour which is perfect for Autumn! The shoes are a great shade of it and I was so happy when I saw how they match the jacket.

Lorna, I like the color you chose… it is such a pretty shade… it is good to have a coat that works for rain and the cold… we have semi similar weather his in Nova Scotia… I don’t think we get as much rain in the winter but we get tons of fog which melts most of our snow. This was a great choice for you xox

(I went to order the rain boots, which I will purchase for sure in the near future but I will have to save up a little bit, since everything is in pounds there and there is a 35.00 delivery fee… It ends up being almost double in Canadian dollars… However; I think they will be so worth it and will last for many years to come xox)

Thank you so much! And gosh, that’s expensive! The sizes are also in UK sizes too, not Canadian sizes, so wasn’t sure if you were aware of that. Did you also use the discount code that I have in this post? Maybe there might be something similar in Canada, but I don’t think Rockfish are stocked there.

      • November 2, 2017 / 10:43 pm

The boots were on sale for 50 pounds… the company even offered me a discount which was sweet. After the delivery charge and exchange rate, they ended up costing 120.00 + change, Canadian. They are worth it though, we have nothing like them here. I love the colors and that you can adjust the calf size. (They have US sizes which are fairly close to our Canadian sizes)

Gosh, yeah that does cost a lot with that shipping! I know they are quite heavy though, as they come in a box, and are very sturdy, so I’m guessing that’s probably why the overseas shipping costs a lot!

Lovely color! Your coat feels so comfy and warm, while your shoes looks perfectly made to complement the shoes.

I’m loving this casual look on you Lorna! It’s definitely a very realistic and wearable look for winter days in the UK. I adore the rich purple and amethyst tones. The vibrant colour makes the jacket extra special, so it really stands out. And how gorgeous are those trainers! The colour is divine, and they look perfect for running errands, which is always helpful!

    Lots of love Saba xx
