Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Superstar Women’s Sneakers Review

Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Superstar Women’s Sneakers Review

I’m doing a review on the Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Superstar sneakers! I have the women’s silver and white classics and absolutely love them! I’ve spoken about the brand before and you’ve seen them on my Instagram numerous times, as well as in my Stutterheim rain coat outfit, so here is the review for you! Golden Goose Deluxe Brand was founded by Francesca and Alessandro Gallo’s shared love of fashion and art. They work with traditional Venetian tailors, combining traditional Italian craftsmanship with a cool, contemporary sensibility and their cult distressed sneakers is what they are most know for. If you haven’t heard of the brand before, you’re going to love it!

The Sizing

Those of you who read my blog regularly will know that I’m between a 39 and 40 in shoe sizes, or a UK 6 to 7. I generally find UK and US shoes run bigger, which is why I take a 39, and European shoes run smaller, so I’m generally a 40. Since Golden Goose are an Italian brand, I took my usual Italian size of 40 and they fit me perfectly! I would say they are a similar size to Balenciaga in sneakers, if that helps! So whatever your usual European shoe size is, go with that. Or if you’re between sizes, go with the size up like I did.

The Comfort

I’m usually really picky with sneakers and flat shoes because I have sensitive skin on my heels, meaning I often get blisters, so I was a bit wary of how comfortable these would be. I was actually really shocked and surprised to find them so comfortable, but I do believe that’s because they’re designed to be worn loose. I don’t do the laces up at all, so they are loose and quite slippy, like the designers intended, so that helps as there’s no friction on the back of my heel as they fit well. I think if they were tight and worn done up, they would rub a bit as Adam has a pair and has mentioned they do cut his heels if he wears them for long periods of time, so I’ve told him to wear them undone like mine. They have a soft insole, and the sole of the shoe is rubber, so they are quite comfortable. They’re stiffly made too so they don’t just fall off your foot.

The Design

Now when it comes to design, I was mostly intrigued and excited by the uniqueness of the brand and how there’s no two shoes the same. This iconic Super Star sneaker is in a classic white with a contrasting dirty white signature star patch to the side and a metallic silver-tone heel. They feature a round toe, a lace-up front fastening (dirty grey), a logo embossing at the tongue, a flat rubber sole and a purposely distressed and scuffed finish for the ultimate lived-in look, which you can tell is inspired by classic skateboarding sneakers. I’ve seen many of them in person, as they come in hundreds of colour combinations, and each pair is completely unique! My pair even has little blue and red felt tip men marks on it, and is heavily distressed, while others are much cleaner. It depends who is finishing the shoes in the factory in Italy and how they want them to look.

At first I always thought Golden Goose were too similar to Converse because of the star logo on the side, and I think everyone thinks this as my mum did when she saw mine. So that can put people off due to the price tag (more on that in a moment). For me though, the design is so pretty and I find them to look 100 times better than Converse, so I was sold. They also don’t make my feet look big, round, or clown like. Due to me having a bigger size shoe and being quite short, certain sneakers can make my feet huge, but these actually make them look small and slim, which is a miracle! I’ve worn them so many times now and even got a second pair to DIY! I can’t recommend the Superstar design enough.

The Quality

As these Golden Goose Deluxe Brand trainers are Italian made, you can guarantee the quality is excellent. I’ve looked them over everywhere and you can tell they have paid great attention to the fit, the design, the placement of stitching, seams, the sewing is extremely neat and strong… They look like they’re going to last you many years, even with the pre-distressing that they come with. I can’t fault the craftsmanship at all and based on that, I think they’re worth the money for the quality. Sure you can get a pair of Converse really cheap, but I find them sub standard in comparison.

The Price

This particular pair of mine is one of the cheapest from the brand’s selection as they are a classic and very minimal, so depending where you shop, they retail for between £290 – £300. It is quite expensive and a lot of their sneakers retail over that, and if some are hand embellished, they can carry a price tag upwards of £700, so it depends on what you’re looking for. I couldn’t be happier with mine though and based on how comfortable they are and how much I plan on wearing them, I think they’re an investment. They go with everything as they’re incredibly versatile!

Overall Opinion

I’m sure you can tell that I love my Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Superstar sneakers! I’ve worn them 4 times since I got them a few weeks ago and can’t get enough! I would absolutely recommend them to you if you’re in the market for a classic, simple sneaker like this which is versatile and easy wearing. They’re an investment and so unique! Plus for me, since they already come distressed and dirty, it means I am not worried about getting them dirty or stained so I’m happy to wear them freely, even when it rains! A lot of my shoes I’m worried about damaging as I like to choose pairs that are unique and delicate, but these are robust and strong! I would recommend going with a classic white pair like this for your first option, then they become addictive so you might want to look into the colours! I still can’t quite get my head around the “dirty” concept here… Distressed looks I totally understand… dirty looks I just find a bit baffling. LOL That’s just a personal preference though and, that aside, I think they look great in terms of shape, colour scheme and overall look. 🙂

Yeah that’s understandable, it’s not for everyone! They have some cleaner styles, but they’re a great shape and design 😀

These are really cute shoes. I am all about flats so on first glance my heart went pitter patter! Love the star design and although I agree they are similar to Converse, I like Golden Goose’s design way better. It’s more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and perhaps it’s the silver color that has got me attracted to the shoes in the first place. This is a great review on these shoes and I am looking forward to trying them out myself. I hope your week is off to a great start and your day is going well so far.

It never occurred to me that there existed such a thing as distressed sneakers — at least, not until the 30th wearing, Once again, you’ve taught me something.

Is that a serial number on the side?

I know, it’s a unique concept! And nope, that’s their logo, it says GGDB (short for Golden Goose Deluxe Brand) and has a half a star at the end, which they have on the sides of the shoes. So just a short hand version of the brand name. I quite like that part, it’s not on all of them, only on a few pairs and I think it’s pretty cool!

Yeah they can be expensive, but a lot cheaper than other designer shoes for sure!

Wow so pricy but also cool, I love the little detail behind 🙂 and if they are comfortable they worth everything!

Thanks for your review! I’m a US 9 (Occasionally a 9.5) but ended up exchanging the Superstar 39 for the 40. I now have a little room in the front of the shoe, but I felt like the smaller size looked weird on me. Do you have room in your toe? I didn’t give this much thought to sending my children to school! Ha ha

Mine are quite snug actually on my low tops, these ones, but the Slides I have (the high top) have some room in my toe. I think it’s all about whatever is comfortable on you, if that’s the 40 with the little room, that’s fine!

do you wear socks with yours? I have a pair…if I don’t wear socks, they rub on the side of my pinky toe…i’m having a hard time finding socks that stay up in them…thank you!

I do yeah, the ankle socks is what I wear as they will rub without them!

I mistakenly ordered men’s superstar instead of women’s. They fit well but the laces have to be tightened. Is there a real difference between men’s and women’s Golden Goose sneakers? Should they fit the same? I’m confused

Hi! No I don’t think there’s any difference, I think they’re unisex, just depends on the sizes. All of their laces need to be tightened if you want them snug as they’re designed to fit loose, so I think yours should be just fine!

I wear a size 10 in US shoes. They fit well lost of the time, although sometimes the size 10 can feel slightly small on my right foot as my right is a tad bigger. What size would you do? A 40 or 41?

    Thanks for your input!

Hi, which brands are you a 10 in? These run true to size for Italian sizing, so I’m usually a 39 in US brands, and a 40 in Italian. I’d go with 41?
