Layering A Denim Skirt With Boots And A Coat
Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m actually enjoying our current weather. There’s a crisp coldness to the air which makes layering possible, but it’s still fairly warm, just how I like Autumn to be. I know we’re expecting some major storms from Thursday onward though, so hopefully things will be ok. Cutting straight to the point though and talking about this photoshoot, we shot the photos at a woodland area that I often use this time of year as it’s so beautiful, especially when the leaves start turning. I thought it would make the perfect backdrop for this outfit that I put together
I was wearing this gorgeous GRLFRND Blaire High Rise Split Pencil Skirt in Live Wire which I decided to style with my new favourite Topshop Fluffy Cropped Knit (which you saw here) and then layered on a Topshop Belted Duster Coat in Grey too! I actually got this coat earlier this year for a steal and have been waiting to wear it! Since I had two shades of grey from the skirt and coat, I went with my DUO Empress Over The Knee Boots, as I can never get enough of these (I like them more than my Stuart Weitzman), and then added in my Saint Laurent Nano Sac de Jour Bag in Grey, for more of a monochrome vibe.
I love the whole grey, black, and white combination, all made different with various textures and length elements. This might actually be my favourite, or one of my favourite, outfits from this year so far! I’m feeling a lot more confident in my health and my self lately, which I think is showing in the photos as well, so that could be why I am so drawn to this photoshoot as one of my best sets, but I would of course love your opinion on that too! Is this something you like to wear in the Autumn?
And this photo below I included anyway, even though I stupidly had my eyes closed, because I loved the angle and the strength in the pose, plus it’s funny to see an outtake now and again, ha ha!
What I Was Wearing:
Skirt – GRLFRND (c/o Revolve)
Knit – Topshop
Coat – Topshop (similar)
Boots – DUO (similar)
Bag – Saint Laurent

wow, never thought grey, white, and black can form something so…colourful.
A trendy and very well balanced composition of tones, fabric, and items with dominating decency and a subtle sense of provocative emanation…move up or down the scale and the whole picture will be spoiled. Seems appropriate for a wide range of occasions and maybe temperatures (there is a coat, right? 🙂 )…
Please consider a B&W-post with similar clothing. It’s not me asking for that, it is this unique combination of tones that pleads it.
I am glad that you are really taking proper care of yourself now Lorna and yes, you look more confident.
Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.

Thank you so much! It’s always nice to read comments when someone has really looked into the photos and outfit, so pleased! Black and white would be arty, but I loved how colourful this was in a muted way 🙂
You’re welcome and I agree, for this particular outfit the grayscale may in fact diminish the effect of the colour combination, especially regarding the skirt and the hair. I remember taking a B&W scenery picture directly from the camera in jpeg, then when I was reviewing the photos, I was disappointed „oh oh, how the heck can I go back to colours 🙂 🙂 🙂 Anyway, this was many years ago, I think now almost everything is possible, picture manipulations have virtually no limits nowadays. Still, I think B&W would be an option for you.
Happy weather trends! Steven.

Yeah, I find it always best to shoot in colour, then edit to black and white in Photoshop if you want a B&W photo, safest way 🙂
The look is lovely! The neutral colors make for a really elegant outfit.

Such a cute way to layer up a denim skirt for autumn! I love long coats like this although I don’t have any in my wardrobe – I have a few long cardis like this though that get a lot of wear in the cooler months!
Hope that you are having a great week and you have a nice weekend ahead of you, and the storms are not as bad as predicted 🙂

I just love the neutral tones of this outfit. That denim skirt looks fantastic on you. Moreover, pairing it with a coat and the OTK boots was such a great idea. I do like the cropped top as well. Great look. This is definitely something I can imagine myself wearing.
P.S. Such a beautiful background!

The composition of these shots is so beautiful. I think the golden leaves of the trees make for a terrific frame or maybe even a kind of halo effect. 🙂 I also like the great shadows you have got going on with your strong shadow and the less defined tree shadows merging. 🙂
As for the outfit itself I like it very much. Black, white and grey make for a really striking combination – especially so with white at the of the outfit, grey in the middle and then the black boots at the bottom. It looks like a very natural progression of colours with the coat kind of linking them all together.

I did think you would like these! Funnily enough, the leaves were mostly green, but with some careful editing, I gave them the Autumnal hue they now have so it fits with Autumn 🙂 I really do love these shots and am very happy with them! I did think you would like the outfit though, Steven! Grey is your thing, as I know, so I’m pleased it went down well 🙂
Oh, you brought forward autumn! Very clever. 🙂 I suppose, in hindsight, I should have noticed that there are not as many leaves in the ground as there should be at that stage. LOL
Yes, grey is certainly one of my things. Always good to see it.
