Wow, January has been eventful so far! I’ve got so much to share with you this time around, and it’s all pretty exciting, so I wont waste too much time on an intro and will jump straight into it!
This month the music I am loving is ‘Lissie – Go Your Own Way‘ as I think that’s an amazing cover! Her voice is so raw and talented, I also love ‘The Midnight – Vampires‘ as I love a good saxophone! TV wise, Adam and I found an old show called ‘Last Man Standing’ with Tim Allen in it, which we are absolutely loving! Movie wise, I haven’t seen any this month, so I can’t comment, neither have I read any books, so nothing to report on that front, so lets get to the events and things I have been up to, as well as new purchases which I know you all love!
I’m still very much into belts at the moment and I picked up this western inspired one from ASOS for a bargain price! Can you believe it’s only £16 and it’s amazing. Huge fan of wearing it at the moment! I didn’t yet own any belt with a silver buckle, so this is great. Click here to buy it. Huge recommendation for this one!
A few other new pieces from Revolve here. I’m wearing the Lovers + Friends Ever Bodysuit in Gunmetal (buy it here), but it’s more like a gold, and I have the GRLFRND Karolina High Rise Skinny in Last Dance as well (buy them here). I’ve really been feeling vintage washes lately and even though these are 100% cotton and quite restrictive, I think they look and fit great, so you should be seeing these more often soon.
And I finally ventured into the Vinyl Leggings craze! I’d actually ordered 4 pairs before from various brands and none of them were any good, fitted terribly, and looked awful, but then I tried out the Commando Vinyl Leggings (buy them here) after some suggestions from people, and they’re literally amazing! They fit like a glove, but the only problem is they squeak when I walk, ha ha. Can’t wait to style them up though! Are you a fan of the vinyl leggings trend?
This week I have also spent time in London! The reason for the trip I will share just below, but to share some photos first, that was the view from our hotel on Trafalgar Square, then a shot of the classic red buses in Piccadilly Circus. Below those is the new room decor in Burberry on New Bond Street and it’s literally the prettiest thing I have ever seen! Floral blooms all over! I had to get photos, naturally, but they even had a pistachio room, and a graffiti room downstairs too, which you can see plenty more of on my story highlights on Instagram under ‘London’ (click here to see). At the bottom is a shot of me outside of Dior, after I’d looked at the Saddle bags I have fallen for, and then a sneaky peek at my Louis Vuitton carrier bag since I bought something I had wanted for months! Again, I shared this on my stories, so check that out!
Now getting to the reason why we went to London, I couldn’t be more proud! Adam was asked by Gillette to be their ambassador for the next 3-4 months! They have launched a new razor called SkinGuard Sensitive and he’s working with the brand – I’m so happy! We attended the launch event on Tuesday which was in London and that’s why we headed up there. It was really busy, Professor Green was performing, and I actually got to meet a few other bloggers I had followed for a while and those who follow me, which was pretty cool. It was a really tiring trip for me though, with a lot of walking, a lot of sleepless nights, and general pains all over, as well as an upset stomach, but I powered through it all and plan on taking this entire week to rest at home. For my outfit, since many of you asked on Instagram about it, the bodysuit is what I linked above from Lovers + Friends and I paired it with my Allsaints Randall Leather Jacket (click here for similar), my L’AGENCE Margot Jeans (click here to buy), my Allsaints Boots, and my Celine Mini Belt Bag in Clay.
Leading up to London, the week before, Adam and I stayed at the Apex Hotel in Bath and had the deluxe superior room, which even had a sofa in it, so we could shoot lots of video and photos, for the Gillette campaign, and for me. That was an exhausting stay too since it was a constant amount of work and no rest, but we managed to get a lot done and it was a success for sure. Two of my looks I have shared above, the mirror shot, and the leopard dress at the top of this post, and most of the items are from Pretty Little Thing. They were kind enough to send me up a gluten free brownie too, such generous staff, so I recommend it if you want to stay. Please do follow on Instagram as well since I post a lot of unique photos there that I don’t share here, especially outfits! Follow me here: @LornaRaindrops
I’ve also been doing more gluten free baking lately and these were the best thing I have made so far! I followed a Mary Berry recipe (which you can never go wrong with) and adjusted it to be gluten free. These are the milk chocolate cupcakes I made, right down to making the buttercream too. Everyone enjoyed them and said they were delicious, so I plan on making them again soon! If you want the recipe, click here. It’s super simple to make as I’m technically a baking novice.
And finally, I’m rounding this update off with a beautiful winter sunset! I was hoping to include some snow photos since it was meant to snow yesterday, but it hasn’t arrived yet. Anyway, that’s it for my January update so far, and I’m going to spend the most of this week working on my blog and staying in the warm to recover. I hope you’re all well! And yes, I will be sharing a review of my new Louis Vuitton purchase soon, if you’re interested, so just let me know! Lorna xx.
P.S. – If you missed my December Life Update, catch it here.

Yay! Happy Sunday!
Sounds like you’ve been busy. That ASOS belt is really cute!

Glad you like it! It is cute!
It will be interesting to hear how you get on with those vinyl leggings. I have always loved the idea but have never been brave enough to wear them. I think I would prefer a matt finish but I am now beyond an age where I could sensibly wear them anyway! I would have expected them to be way too hot a sweaty and maybe too stiff for comfort but I look forward to your experiences

They are quite warm, and can be hot for sure, but they aren’t too stiff actually as they are very much like leggings, so you can move around a lot in them!
Hi Lorna
Great update, looks like you had loads of fun and thanks for sharing. Plus a huge Wow!! to those vinyl leggings, they’re so hot!! I looked in the website and it looks like they’re import only from the US. Is that right or have I done something wrong on my ‘puter?

Hi James! That is correct, I don’t believe you can buy them here in the UK as they’re a US brand, but I love Shopbop because you pay everything at the checkout, including any taxes/customs, so it’s just one fee and they arrive within 3 days. It’s a great place to buy from if you’re looking to get them!
Congrats to Adam. The Last man stand is such a great show. I’m so happy that is back on tv.

Oh wow what a busy month! Great news for Adam and that sounds like such a fun trip, even if it was tiring !I’m loving your sequin bodysuit! 🙂
Hope that you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend 🙂 Our summer heatwave is continuing so we spent a lot of it indoors in the aircon, haha!

Thank you so much, Mica! It was!
It sounds like you had a good month. Those cupcakes look amazing. How did you adjust them to be gluten free? I almost gave up on baked goods entirely since I found out I can’t have gluten.

Thank you! And I buy a gluten free flour blend, you can pick it up easily in the supermarket, it’s usually a blend of rice and other flours which are gluten free, so I swap out the normal flour for that! Super easy!
Oh, I see. I thought the recipe wouldn’t work with gluten free flour in the same way. Thanks. I’m looking forward to some cupcakes in the near future 🙂

Oh it does! The gluten free flour works the same as normal flour, so you can swap it out for pretty much all recipes, it’s what I do! 🙂
A big WOW, Lorna! You and Adam obviously had quite a busy week with lots of going on. Haven’t been in London for many years, must have changed a lot. Last time I flew to UK was about 4 years ago for a business trip to Darlington. Congratulations on Adam’s contract with Gillette, does it mean no more beard on his face though haha? I mean he looked great with his beard 🙂
Anyway, hopefully his new work won’t mean too much stress for both of you аs I guess working with such a big brand may present some challenges in a personal aspect. What I really like most about this post though is how you share his excitement and are so happy and so zealous for his success. About the photos: those that you took in this (now comes the expert formulation haha) „purple room“ are awesome, very vivid colours and a very stylish background. Also the three photos with you and Adam on the top and the brand logo in the middle are very nice.
Have a nice start of the week today with lots of warm tea!

Yes! It means he will be clean shaven for the next 3-4 months, ha ha. It’s taking some getting used to, but it’s a new look that I quite like and he does too. Maybe at the end of it, we might prefer without his beard, who knows! But yes, I’m super excited and happy for him, as well as extremely proud 🙂 The purple floral room was definitely gorgeous, I walked in and went ‘WOW’ and had to take loads of photos, ha ha!
I guess I know what you mean about the photos in the purple room, Lorna: sometimes something just catches our eyes so strongly that we feel like being mesmerized by it. By the way, the pillow fight video is so cute. A thought popped into my head while watching it „No pillows were harmed during the making of this video“ haha. Sorry, it came to me so spontaneously, couldn’t help it 🙂 🙂

Wow, busy month for you Lorna! Congrats to your hubby! That’s really awesome news. Those vinyl pants look pretty interesting but how comfortable are they? I suppose thinking just vinyl, my mind can’t fathom that it’s soft! Love, love, love your Celine belt bag. Such a perfect classic purse.

Thank you so much, Maureen! And surprisingly because they are leggings with a vinyl coating, they are comfy! Super stretchy actually too, just not as comfy as normal leggings, but definitely wearable!
Your cupcakes have turned out beautifully. 🙂 It’s brilliant that you’ve been able to adjust a good recipe to meet your own needs – all the best recipes can take a bit of tinkering like that and work out well. My mum always says that recipes are just guidelines and the more I’ve got into cooking and baking the more I understand how right that is. 🙂
It’s funny for me coming to this entry so late and seeing the shots of you trying on those amazing jeans and that bodysuit after having already seen them in the snowy photoshoot. If I’d not already seen the photoshoot pics I’d be saying that I was looking forward to seeing those jeans in a shoot… but as I already have I can only say I’ll look forward to seeing them in another shoot! LOL
I’m so pleased for Adam that he’s got this ambassador role. That’s absolutely brilliant news. 🙂 I hope he has a wonderful time with it. I have to say that, myself, I’m a bit of a big baby about razors… I just shave with battery powered shavers as blades scare me somewhat. 😀
I’m not sure on the vinyl leggings… I’ll reserve verdict until I’ve seen them in the context of an outfit – but walking around squeaking doesn’t sound ideal… you’ll be banned from libraries… 😉 Seriously though, I’ll be interested to see what you do with them. 🙂
Author
I hadn’t heard that saying before about recipes being guidelines! I like that! It’s very true, especially with how much I have to substitute and change things. I’ve made those cupcakes 3 times now and I really like them! They’re delicious lol. Not good that I end up almost eating the entire batch, ha ha.
That’s funny about the jeans too, at least you got to see them and you’ve been through everything backwards which is interesting! The vinyl leggings I have some ideas for, but I haven’t shot anything just yet, so hang tight on those!
You might like the Skinguard one if you did want to try out a razor, I’ve used one for a while now and it never cuts me which is amazing! I’m usually always cutting myself all the time!
Not sure the razor issue with me is to do with the blade so much as with my own innate clumsiness and poor hand to eye co-ordination. 😉 😀 But I’ll keep the Skinguard in mind.
Interestingly I was at a WW2 cookery course on Saturday (photos on my FB and Insta) and the teacher said there that she doesn’t really believe in strict recipes either… mind you, we did follow strict recipes that day because we were there for the authentic tastes of the era. 😀 A chocolate bun was one of the things we did there. 🙂
Author
Ooooh now that sounds like fun! What exactly is a chocolate bun? I would imagine you would have to follow them strictly for the authentic feeling, might be worse than the technical challenge on Bake Off! Ha ha!
Like a very small chocolate muffin, I suppose. 🙂 I’ve always understood that if they’re big then they’re muffins and if they’re small then they’re buns. These ones were done straight into the baking tin compartments though – no casings. Due to the chocolate shortage and rationing in the war the only chocolate ingredient is cocoa powder (and only 1oz / 25g of that to make 15 buns!). They’re also eggless for the same reasons of short supply. To be honest, they don’t have all that much taste to them other than a hint of chocolate but they’re authentic at least.
Author
I don’t think they would sound like something I like, ha ha. Buns to me always sound large, like a hot cross bun size 😀
