A Casual Look For Cardiff

A Casual Outfit For Cardiff

When I travel to a different place, in this instance, the wonderful country of Wales, I always like to see how different the backgrounds are from Bath when it comes to doing the outfit shoots. These photos were taken just outside of Cardiff Central train station and since I hadn’t been to Wales for a while, they finally finished all the renovations they were doing here and it’s now a large, open space with a fancy blue/grey building in the background.

Here in Bath there are hardly any open spaces, since it’s very much a Georgian and Roman city, so everything is very close together and old, which I think is beautiful, but for getting a bokeh effect or a really blurry background, it’s not ideal. I included a couple of iPhone shots here too so you can see what I mean with the background. iPhone is clear all around, while the camera (Nikon D610 with 85mm lens) is wonderfully blurry. Of course we do get that sometimes here, but not to this level, and it was also nice to be using a background that wasn’t the classic yellow/beige Bath stone. I’m heading back to Wales soon for my tattoo so I plan on doing more outfit shoots there.

Getting to my outfit, this is what I wore when I went for my tattoo consultation and since I was travelling a lot, it made sense to wear something comfortable and easy, so this is my go to. Much like you saw with my brown jeans outfit, I’m really favouring this look. I went with my L’AGENCE Margot Skinny Jeans in Graphite again (I know, I live in these) and chose my Topman Grey Jumper (very similar to this look here) with an ASOS Western Belt to tie it together. I then threw on my Pretty Little Thing Cardigan in Grey, and opted for my Fila Disruptor II Trainers for comfort and style. My bag was my Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C with a braided strap in Taupe. So it was really easy going, perfect for the temperature, and something I will wear again numerous times.

I know I have been wearing mostly neutral shades lately and keeping things pretty simple with my outfits, aside from my Clarks Village look that I shared the other day, but don’t worry. For those of you who love my bolder, brighter outfits, those are coming! I’ve got a couple in mind and since the weather will be warming up a lot more soon, I find it easier to wear brighter pieces when there’s less clothing. Layering works really well with monochrome or minimal colour, while statement pieces work in their own right in a bold, fun, bright print. Anyway, please do let me know what you think of this look in the comments! Lorna xx.

Ahh I miss the Margot! Well, I still love my black pair, but it’s definitely a style I’ve been wanting to revisit! That washed black look in general is a look I totally live in too lol. I have a much loved pair of Frames and one from Mavi in that wash and I think I wear them more than any others I own.

Also I love that braided strap! Minkoff is always coming out with such clean yet stylish pieces.

The Margot is really the best! I own about 5 pairs now and I am addicted! I’m just looking for a grey pair. Absolutely adore them! And yes, I agree! RM is a great minimalist brand! Thanks for your comments, Lana!

    Hi Lorna

You really own that baggy jump look regardless of how you team it. I love you in this one and seeing you in those skinny jeans, I think they’re your best. I’ve not been to Cardiff for a long time, but was in Bath last month and had such a great few days. The fudge shop by the cathedral is wonderful and I’ve got a freezer full of the stuff. A couple of weeks ago we had a day in Oxford which is similar to bath in a lots of ways. Have you been there for photo shoots?

I hope you and yours have a great Bank Holiday

      Hi James!

Thank you so much! They are one of my favourite jeans, I love styling them with everything! Glad you had fun in Bath, I know the fudge shop you mean, my mum loves their fudge too, but I don’t like fudge at all so it’s not for me, ha ha. I haven’t been to Oxford but I know it’s amazing, I’ve seen so many beautiful photos and it does resemble Bath in a way. Hope you had a nice bank holiday too!

Such a lovely casual outfit and of course I love your bag! Mini MACs are the best casual bags I think!

Hope that you have had a wonderful weekend! We went to a wedding, it was so much fun 🙂

Beautiful. Such casual look allows young women to bring out their creative style and work out whatever they have in their wardrobe.

Those jeans are always a winner and, once again, you’re educating on how wonderful and vibrant grey can look. 🙂

I’ve never been to Cardiff… despite living in Wales for 3 years in the 1990s! Maybe I should check it out sometime. 🙂
