All Black At An American Mall

How To Wear All Black Properly

Hey everyone! I took a little 10 day break so that I could rest after the holiday, but I’m back now! These photos were shot here in Ohio over the Christmas period, hence the Christmas tree and decorations in the background, and I thought they made a great contrast to my all black outfit. There was also a gorgeous brick wall in the mall, and that was just as pleasing to the eye, if not better! It’s crazy just how fast everything has gone though, it’s the 10th already and it feels like Christmas was just last week!

Anyway, getting to my outfit, I was wearing my Allsaints Balfern Leather Jacket, which I layered over an Allsaints Star Sheer Blouse. I also wore my L’AGENCE Margot Skinny Jeans in Graphite, and threw on my Saint Laurent West Harness Boots in Black. I then finished it all off with my Saint Laurent 5 a 7 Bag, to complete everything, and I really adore how it looks! I loved it so much that I wore this exact outfit again to the New Years Eve celebrations downtown!

The key to getting an entire black ensemble right is by mixing the different mediums/textures. I’ve got denim, leather, metal, and sheer fabric here, and they all work harmoniously together because they bring so much depth to the all black. The same thing with proportions of the pieces, creating different lines, curvatures, and elements. This is definitely how you go about wearing head to toe black and making it look chic, rather than really drab and boring. It’s all in the textures and proportions.

Speaking of the New Years Eve celebrations though, I got to see a ball drop for the very first time in my life (although it was very underwhelming) and I saw the midnight firework display, and attended a karaoke/disco event, which was so much fun! What did you get up to? And please do let me know what you think of my outfit here and the all black combination! Lorna xx.

Looking lovely as always, Ms. Lorna! My only critique (actually more of a suggestion) would be to somehow find a way to accentuate your eyes a little more. Your use of different shades and tones work so well together in highlighting the curvature of your body as a whole without causing one part to overpower any of the others. And looking at your face, your lipstick give your lips a life, which in turn works to wonderfully offset your nose (I think that would be the proper way to describe it), but your eyes don’t seem to have quiet the same *pop* that’s present in the rest of your features. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, and could easily be the effect you were going for, but it just seems like a shame to a miss an opportunity to highlight the beauty of your eyes. Does all that make sense? Nevertheless, you look amazing. 🙂

That’s interesting you say that, Charles, as I had smokey grey eye shadow, and false eyelashes on here, so my eyes look darker, but I’m guessing that isn’t showing through in the photos due to the lighting? Unless you meant coloured eye shadow? I probably wouldn’t wear a coloured eye shadow with such a bold lip, the general rule of thumb is bold eyes and nude lip, or bold lip and less on the eyes, as doing both can venture into drag queen territory 🙂 I actually thought I accentuated them well here and I had some female compliments on how nice my eyes looked, ha ha.

It could be the lighting, or it could be my screen. Looking at the pictures again I can see you have false eyelashes (well, actually I would have thought it was just mascara) but I don’t really notice the eye shadow. Then again, that is sort of good thing because a lot of women go WAAAAAAY overboard when it comes to applying eye shadow and end up looking like a raccoon/panda. I tend to think the more natural look is better, although in all fairness I’m a bit kook and think a woman you love is far more attractive when she feels like she looks her worst than any of the supermodels people seem to fawn over so much.

That makes sense! A lot of people tend to prefer the more natural look actually, it’s nice to see someone in their normal state. I guess it didn’t show through too well in the photos or on your screen with my make up, ha ha!

Excuse me if you find this comment weird but your star sheer blouse is a fine embodiment of a starry night, exemplified even more by your Balfern! This may sound quite similar one of my earlier comments, but those black leather boots are as equally cute as the same ones in nut suede!

Unfortunately my nut ones broke and have been trying to be repaired for months! But yes, I love the West Harness boots! They’re gorgeous! Thank you for the lovely compliment!

You rock this look! I find monochrome neutral looks really hard to pull off but you wear it so well here with the different black textures and that great bold lippie! 🙂

Hope that your week is going well 🙂
