The Search For A Versatile Watch For All Occasions
I’ve always loved watches, that’s never been a secret, and I own quite a lot of them! My collection consists of two expensive designer watches from BVLGARI and from RADO, and a lot of other brands like Olivia Burton, Daniel Wellington, Nordgreen etc., so I love a lot of variation when it comes to timepieces! It’s extremely helpful when you’ve got an item for every occasion, whether that’s casual day wear or a more elegant timepiece for evening. We always need glitz and glam as much as we need ease of wear, but what if you could combine both in one? That’s one way to end up with a more minimalist approach to your wardrobe, all while keeping versatility. Something that I have had a lot more interest in lately when it comes to my approach to clothing.
One brand I haven’t yet tried is Seiko, and they have a Seiko Grand Seiko watch that has always caught my eye! Of course you can get various designs of this model, but it has a classic, very simple, elegant watch face and you can have a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet. It has a very minimal design, so you can wear it in the daytime really casually, but given its designer name and higher price tag, it works perfectly for evening too and dressing it up. It is considered to be a men’s watch, but so is my RADO and it looks unisex to me, so I’m never against wearing watches for the opposite sex, or any clothing for that matter, as long as it looks good on you. This Seiko Grand Seiko reminds me a lot of a Rolex Datejust or an Omega Aqua Terra, with the simple elegance, which is why I love it.
My RADO watch above is really cool as it has a skeleton face, so you can see all the working pieces inside, especially since it’s automatic, it’s one of the coolest watches that I own. I remember seeing it in the boutique and ended up buying it then and there, purely because I was obsessed with it! My BVLGARI LVCEA watch that you can see in the first picture in this post is a little more elegant as it has a pink crown with a diamond in it, so it’s much more of an evening timepiece, even though it’s absolutely stunning. Based on that, it doesn’t get as much wear as I would like, as it’s not so useful having a watch for a specific occasion only. I’m also terrified of scratching it, or something worse! You know how it is when you have a designer piece!
Which also brings me back to the Seiko Grand Seiko, it’s much more affordable pre-owned and that’s probably the route I would go down for my next watch! I’ve always purchased them brand new, but Chrono24 have them pre-owned and in amazing condition, so I would be much less worried about damaging it or bumping it! My brain works in an odd way in that respect, so if it already had a previous owner and a little wear to it, I would be happier wearing it because I wouldn’t worry so much about the first little scratch that appeared! Ha ha. Am I the only one that thinks like this or not? I can’t be! What’s your opinion on the Seiko Grand Seiko? Do you think it’s a watch with so much versatility? Or do you prefer different brands and designs? I’d love to know!
