Saint Laurent Thin Cassandre Belt Review
This weeks review is on the Saint Laurent Thin Cassandre Belt in Brick Suede. This belt comes in two sizes and this version is the smaller of the two. It features the classic YSL logo with a square buckle, making it one of the most classic and popular belts that Saint Laurent make. Being on the smaller side myself (I’m just touching 5ft 4), I tend to opt for thinner belts over large belts. I did do the classic 4cm Gucci GG belt review a few years ago, and I did wear that belt a lot, however, it was just too much of a statement for me. I much prefer the thinner belts now as they don’t overwhelm my outfits. So, without anymore of an introduction, lets get to the Saint Laurent Thin Cassandre Belt review!
The Saint Laurent Belt Design
I mentioned briefly above that this Saint Laurent belt is the thin version with an adjustable square buckle, featuring the classic Cassandre YSL logo belt loop in gold brass metal. This is what attracted me to the belt in the first place as it’s such an understated, muted, yet elegant design. It comes in many different colours in suede, as well as smooth leather and crocodile embossed. It’s one of the brands most popular belts and I can definitely see why.
The Thin Cassandre Belt Size
As mentioned, this is the thin Cassandre belt and it measures 2cm in height. The larger size, or the classic standard size I should say, measures 3cm in height. It doesn’t look like that much of a difference in size, since it’s only 1cm, however it does make quite a difference when it’s worn on different body types. The actual size of the belt that I took was an 80, which measures 80cm in length. This is perfect for me to wear around the top of my jeans as I go for more of a mid to high rise. My actual jeans size varies between a 25/26 in Madewell, to mostly a 27 in brands like PAIGE.
How To Measure Your Belt Size
The easiest way to measure your belt size is by getting a fabric or tailors tape measure and measuring the circumference of the area you wish to wear the belt. As an example, if you want to wear your belt around the waist at the smallest point (usually the belly button), you would measure your waist at that point in CM on the tape measure, and that will be the size you buy in the belt. If you want to wear it around jeans that sit lower, you will need to measure around the top of your jeans. You do have 5 pin holes on the belt, and the exact CM measurement of your waist or hips will correspond to the middle hole on the belt, so you do have some leeway to go a little smaller or bigger.
The Fabric & Quality Of The Belt
Saint Laurent always use high quality leathers and suedes that smell absolutely delicious, and this Cassandre belt is no exception to that. It’s constructed from 95% calfskin and 5% brass. If you have experience with Saint Laurent boots, you will know that the suede is so luxurious. It has that nappy/fluffy texture to it, while being really strong and soft at the same time. This belt is definitely my favourite one that I own, by far! The stitching is perfect, the suede colour is gorgeous, the gold tone hardware complements the brown beautifully, and it’s so easy to wear. I cannot fault it. It also comes with one of their classic dust bags, and a black gift box with black ribbon.
The Comfort Of Cassandre
The thin Cassandre belt by Saint Laurent is one of the comfiest that I own too! Unlike others that have a huge buckle, this doesn’t have anything but the classic square buckle and the little YSL logo on the belt loop. I’ll admit, sometimes you can get something caught on the S of that logo, but it’s only happened a couple of times. Otherwise you barely know you’re wearing it as it’s petite and a comfortable design. There’s no digging into your stomach when you sit or anything.
The Colour & Price Of The Thin YSL Cassandre Belt
I chose the shade Brick in suede, which is this intense, warm toned brown, with orange undertones and a gold plated brass metal hardware. It’s such a versatile shade and is actually really neutral. I’m really glad I got this version as it makes a statement in such a simple way. I plan to add the black and gold to my collection, as well as the dark beige leather for something lighter to go with my neutral bags. Now getting to the price, this Saint Laurent belt retails for £285, which is cheaper than the larger, classic version which is £380, and I think that’s a really reasonable price for a designer belt, especially from Saint Laurent. It’s on par with other designer brands for a belt of this size and style.
My Overall Opinion
I’m sure you can tell that my overall opinion in this Saint Laurent Belt review is a highly positive one. I probably rate the belt 10/10 in terms of style, size, quality, design, comfort and everything else! I also think it’s reasonably priced for designer belts. I don’t have anything negative to say about this Saint Laurent belt, other than sometimes you can catch something on the S of the logo, but that’s minimal. I definitely recommend it to you and I’m sure the larger 3cm version is just as gorgeous if you’re looking for a larger version! Please do let me know if you have any questions!
