Why I Sold All My Gucci Bags – The GG Logo Hype

I have always been more of a fan of quiet luxury, something that’s trending right now for 2023 as the ‘logomania’ and heavy branding phase is over. Quiet luxury has been an important part of my wardrobe since I started getting into designer brands, which is why I love simple and elegant bag designs, but I will be sharing more on this in another post.

Being a fashion blogger means that you do have to jump onto trends sometimes and go with what’s popular, just to keep up to date and in the eye of everyone else, which meant that I did jump on the Gucci GG logo bandwagon – but it took me a while. I don’t jump on many trends, usually because I prefer my classic style, but sometimes I just have to and I try to make them work.

I was never really into statement belts and statement bags. I always opted for minimal designs and chose bags that were plain and simple from brands like Celine, Mulberry and Saint Laurent etc. I was never a fan of the monogram branding on bags and I definitely wasn’t a huge fan of big, bold logos. The only logo I had before I jumped onto the Gucci GG trend was the muted CC logo on my Chanel velvet boy bag.

Since it was increasing in popularity, I then went on to own two 4cm Gucci GG leather belts with the huge buckle, and three Gucci bags (two with the GG logo and one with the Dionysus) over the course of two years. I think I was forcing myself to like them, which I thought I did at the time because when you’re so overexposed to something, you actually start to like it, but I actually found myself hardly ever reaching for the bags. I did wear the belts a few times, to make a statement with my outfits – but I never really felt like me when doing that. I felt ‘cool’ for a while, but as someone whose core is very feminine and elegant, it was quite far from my comfort zone.

Why did I sell my Gucci GG logo pieces?

I sold them for four reasons:

1 – The GG trend is overplayed, overdone, and just too in your face. Walking around with the Gucci GG on your pieces just shoves the branding in peoples faces and for me, that became tacky and like I was trying to show off wealth, wealth that I don’t have. I save up and sell other things for my designer bag purchases, and the Gucci GG logo just seems so garish now, and flashy.

2 – Fakes were absolutely everywhere! I always preferred bags that were not heavily faked, I liked the lesser known designs and I enjoy wearing pieces that I don’t usually see on anyone else when I’m out. Since not many people can tell the difference between the real and fake Gucci pieces, I just didn’t want to have spent so much money on the real pieces that everyone was wearing, which they mostly purchased from China.

3 – The logo trend is done. I think for many reasons like I have personally stated (fakes and showing off etc.), those of us who love luxury fashion just aren’t interested in showing it off anymore. The logo and monogram heavy trend is a thing of the past as it’s just become so tacky and all over social media. For those of us that take luxury fashion seriously and save up for pieces, going down the classic and elegant route is what it’s all about.

4 – Money to put towards new pieces. It had been a couple of years since I reached for anything Gucci GG related in my closet, so I decided it was time to sell them and put the money towards newer, more simple pieces that I loved and were classics that you can wear with everything.

Did I keep anything Gucci? I actually kept just two Gucci belts. I kept the tiny little 2cm tan and gold one (below), and the black and silver one. I actually find these little belts to be cute and elegant as the GG logo is tiny. There’s something about tiny belts that just looks so elegant and chic! I did also keep my loafers from the brand as those are entirely muted and simple, with zero branding. These were popular long before Alessandro Michele took over and turned the brand into the flashy craziness that it is today. How do you feel about the Gucci GG logo trend and are you done with it too?

These are the only Gucci pieces I’d wear now:

It’s always good to reevaluate your wardrobe regularly and sell things that are no longer working for you! It’s nice you were able to streamline your collection of accessories. I could probably do more of that in my wardrobe myself, haha!

To each his own. As long as I know what I’m wearing is real, I could care less what others do.

Thanks for your comments =) I read & reply every one =)
