Why I Have Always Preferred Quiet Luxury – Now It’s A Trend
Quiet Luxury is one of those trends that has actually been around since forever, and was more popular among the ‘old money’ crowd, but it’s at the forefront of fashion right now. Quiet Luxury is not super easy to describe, but think of it as no branding, minimal and muted colours, soft, delicate fabrics and quality leather accessories. It’s a polished, elevated style that is absolutely gorgeous. So for those of you wondering ‘what is Quiet Luxury?‘ that’s one of the best descriptions that I can give you.
When you think of Quiet Luxury brands, the ones that spring to my mind first and foremost are Celine, The Row, and Max Mara, but so many other luxury and designer brands are releasing quiet, unbranded pieces in their newest collections. One of those examples would be my Saint Laurent Small Manhattan Bag, as it’s cream, it’s sleek, it’s elegant, and there’s no logos on it at all.
I have always been a fan of bags like this, purely because I never liked to buy the mainstream designs that everyone else owned. I liked to go for a different design that wasn’t as popular, as I liked to own pieces that I wouldn’t see everywhere, and I never really liked to throw logos around on my pieces either. It took me around 10 years to actually buy a monogrammed piece from Louis Vuitton and that was the Palm Springs Mini because the little backpack was just too adorable to pass up. Before that, I only ever owned non branded and non logo/small logo bags. Even when I got a few Gucci GG pieces, I sold them. The logo hype just wasn’t for me, despite trying.
I would say that I’ve just simply always been a fan of a more understated look. I don’t particularly like people to know how much I paid for specific items and I don’t love showing logos off either, I find it can be a little distasteful. I have never been a show off person because I don’t believe in flaunting ‘wealth’ for no reason. So the only branding I currently own on some bags is the gold YSL logo on 3 of my bags, and that’s it. I do find the YSL logo to look sleek, elegant and classy though, so I honestly don’t mind it, but I would never choose something with monogramming all over it. Quiet Luxury has just been something ingrained within my own personal style since I started evolving.
I started out when I was younger, in my late teen years and early twenties, absolutely loving bold and bright colours, but that quickly toned down and I’ve favoured neutral shades like cream, beige, taupe, brown, black, white, blush pink, lavender etc for many, many years! So Quiet Luxury isn’t really a trend to me, it’s just the style that I personally love, and I’m really happy that it is now a trend, as it means there’s so many more pieces out that I adore and want to buy!
When it does come to wearing my one monogrammed bag or a my YSL logo bags, I always make sure the entire outfit is muted and neutral, so there’s not too much going on. That’s one way that you can make a statement accessory less offensive to the eyes. If you do have a bold colour bag, you can always pair that with black and white too, so that it pops, but it’s not too busy! It’s always about toning things down if you want to dip your toes into the Quiet Luxury trend. Is it something you want to try? Or do you love bold colours and logos too much? Let me know!
