What You Can Do to Take Your Blog to the Next Level in 2024

Are blogs dying? Absolutely not. While short-form and long-form video content is still hitting us hard and heavy out there, it doesn’t mean that’s the only content that people want to see and that search engines are putting out. Which I’m really happy about! No matter what people are saying, TikTok is not replacing blogs, just as YouTube and Instagram didn’t either. All of these are pairs, they’re supplements, and they help bring out your brand and market it in other ways than one simple blogging website could ever do.

I remember back when I started in 2010, blogging was the only form of content creation, we now have so many other social media platforms and even though I’ve had some readers tell me they only view my Instagram now, my blog is still my biggest and most successful platform of them all. It’s also my favourite as I’ve always been a fan of higher quality content and longer length articles. The short dopamine hits just don’t do it for me.

However, even if you want to turn your blog into a business, you know that you’ll still need other platforms to work on. So, never think of them as rivals to your blog; instead, they’re an additional marketing tool. But what about for 2024? With the advances in AI, surely there are going to be some things bloggers will need to do to ensure that their blogs can keep up with these rapid tech changes, right? Well, that’s definitely true! So, here’s exactly what you can do to take your blog right up to the next level!

Refresh Your Content

So, the first thing you’re going to want to do at the start of 2024 is to give your blog a good hard look. What does it need? Start the year by conducting a thorough content audit. This means that you’re going to want to just go ahead and identify high-performing posts, including updating outdated information and even refreshing some of your evergreen content. So, why do all of this? Isn’t this just extra work? Well, this not only improves the overall quality of your blog but also enhances its relevance in search engine rankings. If you decide to opt for SEO marketing services, they will tell you the same thing: you’ll need a content refresh.

It’s also useful if you use affiliate links as you’ll need to make sure they’re still working and relevant, to earn your commission. New content is always coming up in search engines, so you want to stay ahead of the game and update/refresh your articles. I would advise that you try to stay away from AI generated content though. I know it’s probably useful to have a machine write your entire article, but I’ve heard bad things about it and that it’s not a good thing to do in terms of quality content that Google favours.

Embrace All Forms of Content

As stated earlier, the beauty of being a blogger is the fact that you can just pair up your website with other platforms, and it’s going to work beautifully. Blogs are super welcoming when it comes to different media of content. So, why not go ahead and explore video content? Why not infographics? Podcasts? What about interactive visuals? In general, multimedia not only caters to different audience preferences but also enhances the overall user experience (something that blogs tend to lack nowadays), making your blog more engaging. Incorporating videos is a great idea since it really gives a full look into the content.

Start Hiring the Professionals

Most bloggers are guilty of trying to DIY everything themselves, from their graphics, logo, website theme, installing plugins, writing, photography, video editing, SEO, and the list can go on and on. I absolutely am, but I’ve had some help in areas that are beyond my expertise. Sure, sometimes it’s totally fine to go the DIY route if you know what you’re doing, but why not consider hiring a specialist? If you get an expert on your side, your blog is going to appear and operate far more professionally. It just depends what look you’re going for. I’d definitely recommend a professional graphic designer and a professional website layout – these two things are key!

Collaborate with Other Content Creators

It doesn’t necessarily need to be other bloggers, but in general, you’re going to at least want to try to collaborate with other content creators within your niche – so there still needs to be some relevancy behind this. But if you only want to collaborate with bloggers and there’s no way around it, then you could look at guest posting, joint projects, or even co-hosting events. These are great ways to get your website link and name out there and introduce you to a new audience, which will only help you grow. I’ve noticed a lot of people collaborate with each other on social media, so it’s only going to be great for your website as well! I hope some of these tips help you!

Very interesting idea, Lorna, you have me wondering if I should hire a pro to redesign my photo blog. It’s just for fun and I make no money with it. Changing the post schedule would likely help too. I love your smile in the last photo. 😊❤️

Thank you! Yeah that was an older pic with another local blogger, but she quit! I guess it depends what kind of vibe you’re going for, if it’s just a hobby I guess there’s no need 🙂
