Essential Items Every Fashionista Needs
Behind every fashionable woman is the ultimate wardrobe. Typically, this will contain some essential items, which help to tie together a variety of outfits. Iterations of the same outfit aren’t for everyone, but it can be beneficial to surround yourself with certain pieces that are sure to transcend time.
From basic tees to flashy accessories, I’ve listed 6 different wardrobe essentials to successfully bring your outfits together. These are items that I think stand the test of time, will always remain a classic, and can always be reached for when creating an ensemble. So, lets get to them!
The Trench Coat
With functional fabric, a belted waist, and neutral colours, the trench coat has always been a practical addition whatever the time of year. From the cold and wet weather in the winter to heatwaves during the summer, you can never go wrong with this type of outerwear.
Did I mention that trench coats are also highly flattering and incredibly easy to wear? Whatever your body shape, these classic coats can cinch in your waist, giving the illusion that time has been put into the outfit. Fail-safe colours include beige, brown, and khaki, but those looking to make a statement could even opt for brighter shades of orange and red. I personally love the neutrals myself. They always add a sense of ease and Parisian chic to my outfits.
Statement Jewellery
While you can wear various items of jewellery to complement an outfit, all it takes is one stand-out piece to really elevate your style. It’s also the perfect way to inject some of your personality and transform a casual outfit into something much more glamorous.
To stand out from the crowd, look for statement pieces such as chunky necklaces, earrings with eye-catching shapes, and bejewelled hair accessories. For special occasions, consider investing in jewellery for your hands, since these will likely be one of the first things people notice. If you want to look your best, a gold bracelet or a dazzling diamond ring will likely turn heads.
I personally don’t go too over the top with my jewellery, just one statement piece is enough in the outfit. When your hair is up, a pair of bold earrings looks killer! When your neckline is showing, a gorgeous necklace is ideal. Just don’t layer on too many jewellery pieces at once. I used to do this when I was younger and I now see that it was overwhelming me, ha ha!
Knitted Jumpers
All-purpose knitwear is one of the most versatile types of clothing you can come across. Wear it with everything, from a pleated skirt to a pair of dark-washed jeans and even a pair of trousers, or layered over a dress. You can also choose items depending on your budget, whether you prefer the material of your knits to be made of wool or cashmere, or more allergen/budget friendly – acrylic.
And you don’t just need the one. Consider grabbing a few knitted jumpers in neutral colours. That way you don’t need to worry about putting too much thought into the rest of your outfit and you can reach for one in a hurry. I have quite a collection of knits, they literally go with everything.
Leather Boots
You’ll never tire of wearing leather boots, even when the temperature becomes warmer. From knee-high boots to ankle-length booties, this type of footwear goes with almost anything. You could opt for a closed-toe style in winter and a peep-toe style come spring but the choice is totally up to you.
Black is a colour you can rely on year-round, making it a reliable choice for both formal and informal situations. However, brown leather boots can make an outfit pop that bit more without being overly ostentatious. I find brown to be quite casual and cool. I do love neutral shades like cream for boots in the summertime though – they really exude style and class!
Blue Jeans
I was going to include jeans in general, but there’s so much variety, I wanted to narrow it down more. Even though I personally live in black skinny jeans, I think an absolute must have in the wardrobe is a pair of great fitting, great quality blue jeans. The cut is up to you because every body shape is different, but a beautiful mid blue denim is perfect for any season, any outfit, and any event (providing it’s not formal).
If you’re not sure what cut to choose for your blue jeans, a universal higher rise slim/straight leg is perfect. It creates a soft balance of proportions and looks pretty trendy! But of course you can choose skinny or bootcut if you prefer. I don’t recommend the baggy boyfriend style as these are not universal in terms of styling. Always go for a well fitted pair of blue jeans.
Cross-Body Bags
I think the cross-body bag is probably the most universal and versatile bag there is! Not only does it allow you to go hands free, it’s practical and it acts as a decoration of complement to the overall outfit. I know I always match my bags to my ensemble, and cross-body is usually my preference.
Even if you’re not a bag lover, I recommend having a cross-body style over any other design, purely because of the functionality of it. They really do make your outfits pop and it’s one of the most popular styles that every bag brand comes out with. Keeping up with the trends is easy here!
So that’s my 6 different options for every essential item you need as a fashionable woman! Of course I did want to include things like blazers, leather jackets, dresses etc, but I wanted to keep this list short and precise. Plus, those items are not to everyone’s liking! What are some of your essentials?
