Shoes Every Country Woman Should Own
Dressing appropriately to match the weather is crucial for any season. For those living out in the country, the rainy weather can turn harsh environments into a tricky obstacle course that needs to be navigated daily. I know this well since I live in the South West of England.
Whether you choose to finally grab the Dr. Martens Chelsea boots you have been eyeing for months or take the plunge and invest in high-quality leather country boots that are the ideal solution for everyday wear, prioritizing quality over quantity when selecting footwear designed to withstand the great outdoors will be a worthwhile investment in the long run.
The Everyday Country Boot
If you are searching for the ultimate country boot, you should be willing to invest in a pair of robust, high-quality shoes that will stand the test of time. The ideal footwear option should be fully waterproof, lightweight, and comfortable, rising tall enough to cover your calves for maximum coverage.
Most quality shoes made to withstand the elements are made with leather, which possesses water-resistant qualities and ages beautifully with wear, requiring little effort to maintain. A waterproof and breathable lining will keep your feet warm and dry for extended periods without making you feel hot and uncomfortable.
Lug Sole Boots
If you are going to spend your days trudging around in the elements, you will want a sturdy and refined boot for the job. Lug-sole boots take the chunky and trendy silhouette to new heights but incorporate unmatched craftsmanship and subtle detailing to create a chic and reliable outdoor boot.
Like many other quality boot options, investing in a high-quality, often more expensive option that guarantees extended longevity and reliability during any season is worthwhile. Additionally, their simplistic but stylish appearance makes them the perfect addition to any outfit, regardless of activity.
Rain Boots
My favourite! There will inevitably come a time during the year when rain clouds dominate the skies (every day if you’re British, ha ha) and you will often find yourself shuffling through puddles, mud, and murky water. On those days, you will thank yourself for investing in a sturdy pair of rain boots.
By design, they are only as waterproof as they are tall, so if you find yourself spending extended periods of time outside, opt for a pair that comfortably covers your calf. Multi-terrain boots, like duck boots, are another wet-weather option. But the fabric over the shin area makes them less practical than an entire rubber boot. My preferred rain boots are Hunter or Rockfish. They’re comfy, stylish and waterproof!
Cold Weather Warmers
When frigid conditions are upon you, finding the ideal pair of practical and stylish shoes may feel unrealistic. But suede shearling winter boots may just be the solution for you. Rubber insoles ensure you have good traction on wet and icy ground, while the waterproof suede exterior stands up well to temperamental and harsh weather conditions.
The thick shearling and wool linings add fantastic insulation and give the overall design an elevated luxurious quality. By nature, shearling boots are not the most breathable footwear you will own. However, if you need cold-weather shoes to keep your feet warm and toasty, you can’t go wrong.
The Classic Chelsea Boot
The biggest appeal of ankle boots primarily lies in their versatility and stylish possibilities. Ideal for year-round wear, they can be paired with pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses, suitable for days when you find yourself on your feet for extended periods of time.
For a comfortable and sturdy option, Dr. Martens has extended their iconic footwear range to branch away from their classic lace-up design to include slip-on combat boots, which mimic the convenient Chelsea boot style. The high-quality leather material and robust rubber sole will not only see you through many years but also reassure you about the longevity of your investment. I live in my Dr. Martens in the winter time in Ohio as I have the shearling lined version.
Knee-High Boots
Knee-high boots are the answer to winter weather’s call for stylish but functional footwear. This sophisticated style can be worn while out on the town running errands, for a romantic date night, and at the office.
Leather knee-high boots are a timeless addition to any wardrobe. Thanks to their waterproof properties, they will stand up well to heavy rain. Furthermore, the leather will soften over time to shape to your natural foot and calf shape, with many brands recommending ordering a half-size smaller than you would typically get to accommodate this feature.
Hiking Boots
A large part of country living is heading into the great outdoors to explore the beautiful world around you. Purchasing the perfect pair of hiking boots can be the deciding factor between a refreshing and energizing day outside and an experience that will have you hobbling home in pain.
Many recognizable brands offer high-quality hiking boots with no break-in period, making them ready to hit the trails from day one. A cushioned insole and sturdy ankle shaft keep your foot steady and protected from the uneven terrain of the natural world, while a waterproof outer fabric will keep your feet dry and comfortable when stepping through deep puddles.
Like all shoes, your hiking boots should fit properly to your foot, preventing uncomfortable rubbing that could lead to painful blisters. However, consider that you will likely want to pair them with thick, warm socks when finding the perfect size for you.

No, we didn’t. Those were old pics from Ohio 🙂
Oh!
Definitely not a country woman – don’t have a pair of rainboots for example, but I do have a few of these in my wardrobe! I think it’s nice to have a variety of boots even if boot weather is a short time of the year here.

I suppose it doesn’t rain all that much in Australia though, so that makes sense, lol!
I need to get a pair of hiking boots.
